These weren’t flows or NWA guys, these were good ol Delta boys. Not really sure these are on par with flipping someone the bird or answering the phone but they all made the news.
The wood chipper was Eastern and in ATL. There is a lot more to the DC3 story than you posted. The closet story is also false but the basis of what you heard did happen and was worse than locking her in a closet.

We have been over this before. It is almost impossible to weed out all the "whack jobs" when you talking about a population of multiple thousands of people.

NASA Astronauts - some of the most highly screened people in the world dealing in much smaller number couldn't even weed out a whack job. Remember the astronaut that drove cross country wearing a diaper to assault a suspected paramour?

That said - DAL does about a good job as any at keeping the whackos to a minimum.

didnt this happen here a few years ago here (I think on the 744) where they caught several people sitting SC reserve hundreds or thousands of miles away and the union got all but one their job back? ( as I heard it the one that did not get their job back was not even in the US)

Not sure why we care how an employer chooses candidates. Manpower inc. or literally pulling people off the street and slapping a uniform on them, NOT OUR PROBLEM. If they can do the job, fine. This is a management function we have absolutely no control over. I am glad they are at least getting the company/industry standard housing during training though. If a DCI pilot can fly pax under the Delta brand, what changes with a flow?

I know for me the character / humility / competence of the person I have to sit next to, locked in a box over a 20 hour 4-day, has a tangible impact on my Quality of Life for the duration of said trip.

I think most of us speak from experience that a bad CA/FO can ruin a perfectly good trip.

But that also does not mean that therefore we should have zero effective screening in place.

I Think a lot of that good meaning thinking goes out the window in the real world. You buy an airline you buy it's pilots. You kinda got forced into the compass flow. There may be more mergers in the future and with rapid growth you have to fill seats or planes don't go. Never mind a guy goes through a horrifying divorce and he's dead inside for 2 years, not everyone does that balance well and HR screening ain't gonna help.

Luckily 95% of pilots get along well enough at work not to destroy QOL of those around them, and you can bid away from some of the weirdo's. Except for about two in any group i even get along with the weirdos or at least i think i do.
