Hopefully lurkers understand that this is also an unusual time for the hiring department. Movement is so fast these days that it’s equally efficient for the company to allow new hires to have a lot of options rather than shoehorn them into the most jr equipment in junior domiciles. Obviously we won’t have 75% NYCM88B classes anymore but that type of ‘drop’ will return soon enough.
BL: hustle up and get qualified and get hired asap if you’re lurking and hoping to get a job a dal.

There doesn’t seem to be much logical planning regarding drops across the year. Indoc classes full of east coasters getting slammed with a bunch of LAX/SEA/SLC and the very next class class is full of west coasters not getting a single option west of the Mississippi. One man’s trash is another’s treasure and all that. I recommend to new guys to not stress about it, the entire thing is completely out of your control; time and AEs will eventually solve the problem for you if that’s the spot you end up in.

At least the new system of not having hard numbers of aircraft/bases seems to help people get where they want to go, and AEs are relatively frequent.

There’s probably more logistical hurdles, but I’ve wondered before if pooling 2-3 classes together for bids would help the variance. Everybody still bids in seniority order, but you have a larger pot to select from, so there’s isn’t one week getting all east who want west, and vice versa. Pre COVID we saw it with the 88. Guys getting pushed to that who wanted something else, while folks who would be totally fine with ATL Dawg going to NYC 737 and the like.

But again, this is all temporary. When hiring eventually slows down to a normal pace, we will likely go back to the way things were…entire classes with NYC NBs and the occasional DTW/ATL NB.
