By your logic, if the company posted an AE for 20 NYC73N, and 20 pilots bid off A220 to go there, they would have to post another AE to even have any new hire vacancies.
That actually is my logic because those 20 A220 vacancies were not posted.so.they are not unfilled category vacancies. They are unfilled contingency vacancies that the group at large was not given the opportunity to bid on before being assigned to new hires.

That's the thing, the group at large WAS given the opportunity to bid them. Anyone with a bid in could get the position.

Actually, the group, as a whole, did not know there would be that contingent vacancy when the AE closed so they might not have bid for it, unlike a category vacancy where the whole seniority list is presumed to know there is a vacancy because that vacancy has been posted.

Again, this seems to follow with 22.E.10 which states, "If no pilot bids on a First Officer category vacancy, the Company may assign an entry level pilot to fill the vacancy." No mention is made of a contingent vacancy. If that unfilled contingent.vacancy remains, the Company can (and likely will) post it on the next AE...unless they are trying to shrink a category and then it vaporizes.

Pretty sure everyone from day 1 is told about cascading vacancies, and anyone they ask that has been here more than 1 AE can help the new pilot out, too. I don’t buy your reasoning.

A contingent vacancy is a vacancy in a category and thus a category vacancy. Nowhere does it say category vacancy is only through an AE posting or otherwise define it. In fact there is also the option to add positions from pilots terminated, designed or on a long term absence by filling them with an AE in progress.

I heard new hires have been awarded 350B. Can anyone confirm this? I guess we must have had some infilled bids on the last AE. I am in ATL for training and have heard this from 3 different instructors but have not seen it via the class drop thread which seems odd.

For some reason people are saying DTW 350B is going to new hires because they didn’t backfill. Which doesn’t make sense. Under same logic, SEA330 and LAX350 should go to new hires as well because they had a negative net result from AE. Contract claims unbid VACANCIES can be awarded to new hires. Where was the vacancy to DTW350B? Somehow people time and time again listen to the rumors of sim instructors. As far as I’m concerned I have yet to find anything in contract that allows a new hire to bid onto a backfill position….
