220 is NYC, SLC and SEA

Thanks. And the 220 is one year seat lock (and 717) due to lack of LAX?

Seattle has the 330, 7ER, 73N, and 220. ER will be leaving in the next few years and the 320 will be added. Subject to change, of course.

If you get the 220 as a NH, but want LAX, you can bid a new airplane (to change to a base without the 220) after 1 year. Conversion will happen either 365 or 210 days after the AE is published.

In other words… It may be pretty close to 2 years before you actually see LAX. Rank order accordingly, because the other LAX NH equipment (7ER, 73, and 320) could get you to LAX on your very first vacancy bid. We average 4-5 AE’s per year.

As a single data point, I got NY MD-88 as a NH. There was an AE while I was in indoc, and I successfully bid to ATL 88. By the time I was done with OE, I got converted, and never even had to show up to NYC once…

That is probably going to be the case for quite a while (other than the mega class at the end of his year, maybe due to it's size it'll spread some more spots out). The 717 is an outlier since it is not based in NYC and they need every possible fleet available to train new hires, so you'll always see some DTW and/or ATL 717 in the mix. NYC is junior for a reason - most people don't want to be based there. Thus, the vast majority of the new hires that they have been slamming in to NYC over the past few months will all bail to other bases on the next AE. That will simultaneously get those other bases up to a more normal (ish) staffing level while at the same time draining the NYC talent pool. Thus even more new hires get pumped into NYC, until they too can bid out. Sense a pattern?

Yup, makes sense.

I'm curious, however. Which fleets have the best progression, say, 3-5 years down the line? If I'm not mistaken, 7ER is great if you stay in NYC (perhaps true for all given how many people want to vacate). But, if you want to leave, but stay 7ER, ATL on the other hand would make you super junior and thus poor QoL. But, if you are 737/320, no matter where you start, you can have a good QoL earlier since you can go to your desired domicile earlier, but not have that lack of seniority as much as the 7ER.

Is this correct thinking? Just basing it off this forum and a buddy who left the 7ER/NYC for 737/ATL.

Here is seniority for about 5 years on property, NYC only.

FO
330 - 84%
765 - 71%
7ER - 42%
73N - 12%
320 - 14%
220 - 4%

Capt
320 - 94%
220 - 93%

With the current AEs waiting to finish I would hold Capt at about 70% on the 320 and 90% on the 73N.

If you are a NH you can use widget seniority to see all this.

Can someone explain seniority in percentage to me? I’ve always just looked at seniority number.

Percentage down from the top of that particular category (domicile, aircraft, seat).

Big number bad, little number good. It’s you’re percent of a certain BES.
