If/when SEA 320 opens, it will be a new category, so everyone, regardless of seat lock, will be eligible to bid for it.
That was kinda my plan already, but that sounds good. I’ve been told that if I’m on the 220 (for example) I couldn’t bid on the a320 sea base when it opened because the 220 has a sea base already. Whereas if I was on the 717 I could bid on it because they don’t have a sea base. But you’re saying everyone can bid on a new base opening regardless? Thanks for the input!

not the case, any pilot can bid on a new category regardless of seat lock.

So we still don’t know how many people were in their past weeks class and what they got?

Just an FYI. In that scenario, you would have your remaining new hire seatlock added on to the end of the 2 year seat lock you would incur bidding over to the bus. With the proper (or improper) timing, that could leave you with a 3+ year seat lock on the bus. That being said, I'd highly recommend you bid a fleet that is already in SEA. The bus will likely be there in the near future if you really want it.

I don’t think this is true

if you break your NH seat lock to move to an existing category to change bases or take first upgrade this would apply, but I don’t think this applies to a new category opening

Are the rumors strong enough about SEA 320 opening that i should go for it? Or play it safe and go 220 or 73N? Just concerned about seat locks and all that jazz. Thx!
I'd go 73 or 220, get to Seattle, and then switch to 320 once it opens up there. 73 will have more redeyes but more efficient trips, and 220 will generally have more legs and early shows.

I'm with you. The new category would merely start a new 24 month category freeze commencing on the date the award is published, not 24 months plus any remaining NH freeze

You guys are right. A new category would buy you a 2 year seat lock only. However, there are still risks. They could decide to delay opening the category or it could go more senior than you expect. I think that's a decent possibility with the large amounts of Hawaii and transcon flying it sounds like SEA 320 might have. SEA 73N and 220 have been trending junior and will likely stay that way. I would go for one of those.

I would emphasize that under the current system, a bad bid can leave you marooned in an unfavorable position for a long, long time.
