Fair enough. I’m picking up what you’re laying down.

I would find it surprising to place a big order now. Maybe next year when the recovery is more defined. A lot of current leisure travel is stimulus money and people not working with lots of free time. I have a relative living in Vegas who said the tourists they are getting at the moment are quite different than 2019. I was there a month ago and found that pretty accurate!
The question didn’t mention 787. JL did. If we have an almost-announced order, he would have been a lot more circumspect. But you’re right that he’s not going to let any cat out of the bag.

Having said that, the final portion of his comments about “used aircraft” was very telling, IMO.

Maybe it’s 18 used 777s?!

I was in Victorville a few weeks ago picking up a jet and there were at least 7 LATAM 350s parked there as well as LATAM Mx guys hanging out in the break room. I saw 2 with airstairs on them so something is happening with them.

Just to clarify:

We purchased an interest in LATAM at a premium. That included receiving several of their 350s. I'm assuming that was included in the premium pricing.

We pay Airbus to drop the 350 deliveries. At a premium.

We are now back to purchasing 350s that we had purchased, then paid to stop deliveries, now back on.

What a waste of money.

Clearly you have not attended the Harvard and/or Wharton MBA program for Airline Executives. Had you done so, this acquisition strategy would make perfect sense. Makes those stock buybacks almost seem reasonable. 🤔

Cancelling the purchase of the used aircraft was when we were staring down the barrel of Covid in May 2020 and no clue how long the recovery would be. In all fairness, it wasn’t a crazy decision considering the time.

I doubt we will know the true price, but I’d imagine right now widebodies are at their lowest purchase price in a looooong time.

Hey, I even know two 777 simulators that aren't being used either! All you gotta do is turn them on.
