The MEC Officers are simply more than central figures that represent the will of the majority of the LEC reps.

So I'm supposed to contact my rep to ask him to vote for who I want.
But my rep is running. I think I know how he's voting. (compared to some of the other options, Ryan and Tom are my 1 and 2 choices anyways)

Im sure he/she will listen to their constituents. DALPA has a proven track record of that.

When I was trying to explain this to my wife today, she was "Effing Bewildered" when I told her that we don't directly vote for the MEC Chair, out LEC reps are supposed to take our input, but more than a couple of us have our reps running.
(For the record, I think my rep will do fine as MEC chair, but if given a vote, I'd probably ask more questions and lean towards Ryan unless I heard some WTF answers to questions, if only because he's closer to my peer group and there are generational differences)
But the fact that we can't vote directly made my wife basically like this for the better part of an hour:

Yes, my wife, when mad/excited/awake sounds like angry Fran Drescher.

I’m glad my LEC reps elect the chairman. The chairman works for the LEC, not the other way around. The LEC elections (that we vote for) are truly the most important (and overlooked) elections.
A popular vote for the MEC chairman would be a mistake. There are a lot of uninformed voters that could do some serious damage with their emotional votes and lack of insight to closed MEC meetings. The current process works just fine.
