What you’re describing is management’s cost problem, not an operational problem.
With QS/IA+M7 and SC+M7, management already has adequate tools at their disposal to fix the operation. They simply don’t want to absorb the cost, especially on a permanent basis.
For RG, the quick deal negotiations were all about escaping AA/M7 at a discount. It was never about restoring the operation to him. I’m glad that it failed, as it means that the NC/MEC valued our leverage appropriately and held the line.
It will take RG and the rest of management longer to accept the fact that their costs are never going away, even if AA/M7 eventually changes.

Where does the RES step of the coverage ladder happen again?
AA is what they want. They better do the calculus on that it's going to come with a hefty price tag.
Further this cancellation -palooza is a nexus. Staffing, coverage efficiency (a lack thereof) and rotation construction.
They arrived to this destination thru a series of really poor decisions. RG is not deft enough to figure a way out of it He's the bull in a china shop approach where what is needed is elegance and precision.

they can play with words but wholesale rejection of the PWA just won’t happen because it would cost them more than it’s worth.

My take is that Gumm is one arrogant, delusional manager.

gotta wonder what berkshire hathaway is now thinking as they just yesterday announced a $2.6b stake in delta from a march purchase. only airline they purchased after years of vowing to stay away. something in the reliability, brand, customer rankings and no doubt amex relationship they liked.

Top notch post
I am also happy to see the NC/MEC is holding the line. It has all been pretty tight lipped this time around. While we all want to know what’s going on, I think the lack of chatter is a good sign. It sets a more serious tone. Based on the updates, it seems like we are in for a long summer.

Tomorrow there is an ALPA family event at Falcon Field that will have several reps present, along with the NC. Given the fact that negotiators themselves are there, is something bigger at play with this event? What is the point of this besides your typical PUB?

Wouldn't this be a status quo violation at this point now that we are where we are in contract negotiations? Does it even matter? Genuinely asking the question, since I'm not sure the company even cares about that stuff and seems more than willing to take things to arbitration.

That said, I hope people will (respectfully) ply them for information, and gut feelings. Then PM me
