I jumpseated with an American Airlines crew yesterday, both St. Louis-based and former TWA. The FO was a 1990 hire, was furloughed for 5 years, and is currently an MD-80 FO. I told him that at Delta he could hold a 767 Capt position with that DOH. They both said that Delta is the place to be right now. Also chatted with an AirTran Capt this morning who said that with the transfer of the 717's, he'll lose his Capt position and will retire as an FO based upon their seniority integration with SWA. When I look at the situation at other companies it puts our disagreements about the TA in perspective. Either way, we're still better off than many of our contemporaries.

This B school quarterly insanity has got to stop. In this industry you have to agressively and ruthlessly defend marketshare or you will be burried as you cannibalize your own capacity and your competitors pick you off on their terms. Whats happening in Athens is a Waterloo-ish microcosm for our failing capacity dicipline at any price strategy. Route by route profitability is a great way to buff quarterly numbers but a horrible way to run an airline long term. We will pay dearly for our managers incompetence in the long run, in domestic and international markets alike. While sometimes route reductions and even elimination make sense long term, we are taking this way too far and will be worse off for it. |

My house was worth more a half decade ago too. Demanding something that is not the current asking price for your peers is wishful thinking at best. Ask the NMB. I like your style, though. It's just not logical.

There are strategic objectives that require a smaller capacity footprint in order to pass regulatory muster... This is where the TA JV protection could help or hurt. If Delta's future objective is to engage in profit sharing JVs, the TA will hurt us because it sets up a threshold of Delta pilots getting only 75% of Deltas JV revenue share. In a 50/50 JV our negotiating baseline would be for just over 1/3 of the JV flying, whereas the current Transatlantic JV sets our share at half of the JV flying. If Delta's future objective is to engage in revenue sharing JVs, the TA might help us because it sets up a threshold of Delta pilots getting 75% of Deltas revenue share. In a 50/50 JV our negotiating baseline is for just over 1/3 of the flying, that could be more than 4-flights/week and 175 pax per plane as we have in the PWA right now...We win if the future revenue sharing JV partner has more flights than us, we lose if the future JV partner has fewer flights... @texavia: Your post is a complete waste of space. Does that post actually mean something to you, or did your cat sit on the keyboard? If you don't have anything to add to the coversation, then at least just post some scantily clothed women or something funny. Geeeezzz!

I'm not sure if it was you or someone else who claimed that no voters were "single issue" voters, but we are not. Understand that the TA has many issues that many of us take issue with- at least that's the way it is for me. It's not just about pay. So, maybe you should consider expanding your points beyond your typical, "We won't get anymore money." defense. Is it just about the money for you? |

I'm a single issue voter. The whole point of us having an early TA is to sale scope. That one issue is a huge issue. I should go back and find my post a few months ago about being willing to accept a 20 percent raise up front if everything else stayed the same. I was crucified on here about being too cheap and having no self worth. This TA is nowhere near that and it might actually pass.

The words "limited time offer" come to mind with the sentiment of a cheesy, used car salesman tactic. [Gif]http://static.fjcdn.com/pictures/WackyWavingInflatableArmFlailingTubeMan_64bbda_174 652.gif[/Gif] Only thing I'll add is the dangling fruit of new aircraft orders. |
