Just looked at Buddy pass myself... roundtrip with 1 stop was gonna be $360 plus $50 fee each way (that's the part they don't tell you without research) so $460.
Nonstop on Virgin or USAir was $570. Delta was $645. I can't see why anyone would ever use one (or at least not do it twice...).

Anyhow, I used the fare calculator to come up with $120 per person round trip. It's going to cost them about $350 to drive. I sold them on saving $110. I authorized them, listed them, and found out it's about $185 person. $370 vs the $240 the fare calculator quoted. I've used the fare calculator in the past and found it to be about right on. Anyway, they are now back to driving again as it's cheaper, and they don't like the idea of standby. I am out 2 buddy passes as I already authorized them. I have used 0 this year so I don't care, but it's not right. You should be able to get an accurate assessment of the price before committing. Rant over.

Yes, about six months ago they added the fuel surcharges back in. The tickets doubled in price overnight.

Wow. I've only given out one or two per year. One always goes to a friend of mine from Zurich who comes over in January for a sailboat race in the Keys. He's been doing it for the past 4 years and he has always sat in F/C both ways, cost has been about $480 round trip.

But if it is double that now, I don't know if he'll make the trip this year. He buys a full fare ticket from ATL-MIA because in January, there's no way an S4 is getting on. We found that out the hard way the first year he came over on a buddy pass all the way to MIA. He got in ok, on a Wednesday, but to get home on a Monday, every thing out of FL to ATL was full so had to buy a one-way walk up to get from MIA to ATL...for $385!

Thanks for the heads up on the fare calculator, I'm going to check on a Zurich round trip and then call DL Reservations, see if I can get the "Real" price, all add on's included.

They use comscore beacon and google analytics, based on your IP address. Firefox & Chrome use extensions to block them, if you want.

What I would LOVE the company to do is to eliminate buddy passes but give each employee positive space for the family once a year to fly over vacation time. THAT would be something we could bank on.

Friends don't let friends fly on buddy passes. It sucks.

I'd like to see in laws get benefits like step parents currently get. One or the other; in laws or step parents. The buddy passes are how my in laws travel which makes it darn near impossible for them to get out to see us.

It was buried in a Trim Tab a ways back.

2013, Bernake & Commodities

It is surprising that no one has posted on the Fed's action yesterday. It would appear this changes things for 2013 and possibly has a host of other consequences as far reaching as throwing the Presidential election and making the "fiscal cliff" less relevant.

Despite repeated attempts at economic stimulus, hiring has remained stalled. Bernake's goal is clearly to create an economic situation where companies have to hire. That should, and will eventually, include Delta.

The problem not many are talking about is that commodities are in a World market. The Federal Reserve has stated it will buy 1/2 Trillion in bonds and mortgage securities ... Indefinitely and buy more if the economy does not respond. In perspective, Qualitative Easing (money dump) #1 helped to bring us out of the panic of 2008. QE#2 did little more than inflate oil and gold prices (since they are priced on the world market and go up as the dollar goes down). The overall economy stagnated and got smaller. This QE#3 is designed to do more than rounds one and two, inflation and commodities be dammed.

We can expect demand for air travel (and most other goods) to rise as a result of yesterday's announcement. The flip side is that fuel and other costs are going to rise.

And the refinery purchase looks better and better. :)

Right now buddy pass not worth it. Just priced two tickets one way from PDX to MCO. Over $175 as buddy pass, $105 on spirit for a real ticket, $170 on United. Just the way it is.....

I had 4 family members fly to Rome and back and they all got 1st class both ways. Another friend and his wife flew to NRT and got 1st class both ways. Sounds worth it to me. I have always used up my full allotment and with a little bit of flexibility in travel days my buddies have always had great success with the program.

Did you bribe God to have that luck?
