Pilot counts in November 2012:

777: 262 Capt/ 277 F/O

I think your basic premise is false.

Okay, am I missing something here?

In 2008 the 777 had 193 As and 194 Bs. According to the Delta 2008 10-K, we had 10 777s.
That equals 19.3 As and 19.4 Bs per 777.
2012 October fleet report says we have 18 777s but we only have 272 As and 277 Bs?
That equals 14.56 As and 15.39 Bs per 777.
?

And...except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we are still wayyyy over staffed on the 777.

well, if we had kept the 19 pilot ratio per 777, we would have 85 more As and 72 more Bs, or 158 more pilots total.

I think the real number is more like 14 in each seat, per airframe...

But with the ability to swap a 2 day, 10hr. trip for a 6 day, 45 hr. trip, the needed number is less than 14 per seat. Then, there's the pilot to pilot swap board...
