I don't see not wanting to fly international as a reason for a 767 guy to avoid the ER. There is so much domestic flying in the category now that nobody has to fly international if they don't want to, except for a reserve guy occasionally. Hoping that 767 guys will bid to the 73 is kind of a pipe dream.

No, it's mostly incorrect. DC9 category remains open. ATL 767 domestic closes. 717 and 737 part is right however based on the 737 airframes coming there will be additional flying in other bases. The biggest detail from a pilot perspective is how much of the 767 flying is transferred to the 7er category and how much goes away. The next bid will not provide a complete answer since its a 1 year bid and a planned June bid will have adjustments.

It's all a complete waste. It's an incredible conflict of interest.

Wow-what a 2 week run. I'll take my 450% gain on the Dec 10 calls. Hope no one was writing them.

Remember this is what crew planning said about the 9.
A) They can only train two new crews a month, B) They know that the 717 is a new category and that the freeze 9 pilots have on the 9 does not apply going to either the 717 or DTW 73, so that means 9 pilots could leave and they can't train enough 9 pilots to stay so they increased the number of 9 pilots to add a buffer. C) So they're overstaffing the 9 so as to have a buffer against pilots leaving and because of the slow training rate. Whatever must be done to keep trips from being cancelled due to a lack of pilots. I'm sure their worst nightmare is all of the 9 pilots bidding 717 and most being senior to those pilots outside of the 9 that would bid the 717. Wouldn't everyone convert in seniority order? I've got to go check the contract how that works. Maybe their hope is A320 guys MD to the 717? |
