Have you seen the pics of Catherine Webb in SI? Wearing a half Bama half AU jersey. She's in the swimsuit edition. WOW!

Yeah, but she is really smart, too.

The good thing for her is that while boyfriends come and go, no pun intended, she'll always be one of the many hot girls that went to Auburn.

You guys crack me up. Sometimes it's "Southwest is lost, gonna start going downhill, Lost it's way". Then, "AMR is going to liquidate, judge is going to impose contract, We are getting MIA and JFK". "UAL/CAL is a mess, just wait".

I think the focus should be a little more on your own pay/QOL vs hoping other airlines do poorly

That would be a valid point, if my post had anything to do with what you describe. I was just explaining that there are a number of valid reasons for differences in market cap.

With all three networks firing on all cylinders, I suspect the highest market cap would be UCAL, followed by AMR, followed by us.

I'm way beyond waiting for other airlines to die. With seniority that is not transferable, we're all effectively married to our respective airlines, and we've all proven we'll do whatever it takes to keep her at home, no matter what she does to us.

I do think the Southwest "low-fare" model is a bit of a fraud, and I also think that they've peaked, but I don't anticipate getting a benefit from it.

Have you checked their "low fares" lately? Not so low. They have quietly gone the way of the legacies with a lot of their pricing, with no real loss of pax. Overall reduced capacity, plus the RJ's, has helped this for them.

BTW, my neighbor is a SWA pilot. He made 190+ and averaged 16 days off last year. Flew a couple overtime trips during the summer. He is mid seniority FO.

Boog;

They still have some really low fares if you buy at the right time, but the prices go up as the flight date approaches. Plus they have numerous direct/non-stops with which DAL would transit a hub. It depends on where you are going.

Your neighbor did 40K+ better than me if that was his w-2 reported income. If you add in my 401k (company and my contribution) we tied +/-.

Hmmmm, that's about right for a mid seniority captain at delta.

The SWA guy would then add 22k + 18K in 401k. Btw, mid seniority FO at SWA is about 7 years or a 2005 hire. ;)

I have numerous friends there. I know how they are doing.

Edit: Including the guy who would feed (kittens free to good home) to the squadron mascot.

Then we agree. Southwest is an airline that excels at yield management, if you look at it one way. Or they are engaged in institutionalized bait-and-witch, if you look at it another way.

Either way, they're neither a low-cost, nor a low-fare airline.

Coincidentally, there were a couple articles mentioned on the Deltanet about this very topic:
