He said the -40s are gone when they time out and that they are looking at options to convert the -50's over to match the -88's cockpit which would keep the -50s flying for a lot longer.

I dont know any further details but that was from the DC9 fleet manager fwiw

Super, that is a lucid, intelligent, and well-sourced rumor.

There were no absolutes, and the hearsay was easily identified. From the rumor police, you get an A+. :D

As you will become aware, DAL will not do anything unless they get an ROI of two years or less.

FWIW, the info down here is that the 30's and 40's will be parked. When is up for debate, but one thing DAL does well is park jets when they want to!

No one disagrees about the -9s eventually getting parked, after all they've been on the verge of being parked for the last 20+ years ;)

I'm not saying that swapping them out will keep them going until 2020, i believe the swap out rumor of the -30s is what will keep them going until 2012assuming no oil $ explosion, mass failure of VORs, cats and dogs living together, world ending, etc ;)

Below is a shortened version of the NWA-DAL pilots debate on the remaining life expectancy of the Diesel -9; :D

You have shown some of the parked DC-9's. Is that all of the ones that have been "sold for scrap?" :D

It is kinda sad, I took ship 6716 out there and there were tons of them, some scrapped. On lighter note, got to do 2 touch and go's in a 747-200...
