Did anyone think to ask them which three?

Aren't they on record stating that the MD-88/90's will be around for a long time, too? So how do you narrow it down to three fleet types from:

717's
MD-88/90's
A319/320's
737-800/900's
757/767's
787's
A330's
777's
747's

Unless we are getting rid of all the Arbi, and somehow combining the MD88/90/717 and 787/767/757/737's into two different common fleets, I don't see us getting down to three fleet types while any of us are still flying.

I think he's referring to the Leo Mullin era. That was the plan back then.

That's what I was thinking. That has Leo Mullin written all over it.

Hiring was always planned for 2013.
There were 2 things that changed. The ER program did not produce the upfront number of pilots hoped for however overall it is better for the pilot group since the pilots who went were much younger then the targeted group. The second was a large number of pilots returning from Mil Leave. 130 to 140 were the last numbers I heard with more each month. Even with both those items flight ops still wanted to hire but did not get funding. They now plan to start the process this fall for classes next winter. The end result for pilot advancement 3 years from now will be exactly what was stated upfront if not a bit better with the younger ER participants.
Not sure I follow you about what I already understand from past posts? But lets continue this discussion when the next AE comes out and then we will have known quantities of displacements and vacancies for the initial 717 and 73N. Hopefully vacancies will exceed displacements.

If the company purchases the 30 additional aircraft then in 3 years we will have a net fleet increase approaching or exceeding 100 aircraft. That means 218 new aircraft plus the MD90's. There will be a lot of retirements as planned. In the past however Delta has almost always slowed retirement from their forecast so that could mean a even greater gain.
That's a massive capacity growth. MASSIVE. Even with DCI losing 5000 seats and a net of 150 small unwanted RJs.

Yes, but only if you stay. But be nice to our planes. The one time you were on my CA's jumpseat you intimidated that 767-300ER so much, it pooped a PRSOV.

I still made it home that night, but we were 4 hours late.

Ha ha. I remember that. You guys were good. Very professional. I'm glad you made your flight. Scheduling made sure I made it to LAX that night. It was good to feel needed.

Well first we'd all have to request the 16L every time landing south and then make sure to call out the ILS 16L FAF by name

Cheers

Yup, we were going to have 737-600's, 700's, and 800's, along with the 75/76 fleet and 777. We had tons on order and option. The plan was also to combine the 767-400 and 777 fleets because there was a clause in the contract to blend the pay rates. Not many guys knew that little tidbit. I was a 727 F/O instructor at the time flying my trips as a 727 A out of NYC. That brings back my memory of my first trip as a Captain in NYC. In a Noreaster. First leg snowing like hell and Andy Rooney on our flight. He stuck his head in the cockpit and said "whatever you do, please don't thank us for being patient".
