IDK for certain, but it certainly looks that way. How many people will come in to vote? NYC is predominantly commuters.

Anyone on the 777 know if people intend on bidding the whale once the fence drops? Or have heard people talk about it? Someone I know wants to bid it onthe next AE but doesn't want to be bumped off it once the fence drops and have to go to training again. Thanks

Well C. N. seems to be an above the board guy from my dealings with him. He has answered my emails promptly every single time. As a direct constituent(NYC FO) of his, he has been a good dude....I would be surprised, well really surprised if this is the case.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain if he squeaks onto the whale before the fences drop he can't be kicked off simply because a PMDL pilot wants on. The only way he'd come off the whale is if he bid off, or was displaced. When the fences fall, the 777 & 747 don't become free for all aircraft. There needs to be a vacancy, or one would have to bump him via displacement.

That's been my experience as well. I don't want to imply anything. I'm just stating facts.

As far as I know, it means the CN didn't want the NYC FO's to be unrepresented for 4-6 weeks while regular election was held. Lots of things could happen in that time and there would be no voice for those pilots. (the votes are not able to be proxied to another voting rep in the interim).

It is a rock and a hard place for the current rep and the membership, both options were bad. Luckily for all the NY pilots, it is a short time for an interim rep and the next regular election nomination time is this fall, and will take place via ballotpoint.

I have not heard a single 777 Capt. or F/O say they want to bid the 747. We have discussed it, many have aksed me if I would bid it. My anwer, which many agree with, is:

1. Why would I want to go back to school... for no pay raise? :rolleyes:
2. Why would I want to go back in time 25 years, with no chillers, no CPDLC and No ECL? :eek:

Now, there are a couple of "what ifs" that would sway me.

What IF

1. All 777 time is pulled out of ATL and put in DTW and
2. All 747 time is pulled out of DTW and put in ATL

In that case, I would take a very hard look at it, only because I don't want to commute to DTW. ATL is much closer to FL with twice the flights to get back and forth to work. I'd look at the trips both are flying, the commutability to both bases, etc. and only then I might consider it, but that's just me. Right now, the A330 has trips I would prefer, if they pulled the 777 time out of ATL. I talked to a LCA who said management doesn't want to bear the training cost of displacing 189 Capt.s and 189 F/O's so the 777 time will stay in ATL and we will continue to DH to our trips...but you know that could change at any time.

As Johnso points out, there would have to be vacancies to be filled in any case. Now that some guys are finally turning 65, we may see some A/E's to both. If Carl's 747 rumor turns out to be true, there will be bids to the 747. And since those are 'new' airplanes, they will not be fenced off, so you will see south guys bidding them, but I doubt you'll see 777 guys bidding it.

I suppose that IF the 747 rumor was true, THEN considering the number of 747's that fly out of the ATL, and the number of guys commuting to DTW... You would then see 777 guys going to ATL for a (hypothetical) new category. Anything new to ATL at the top payscale will be heavily bid by all pilots, not just pilots on the respective side of the shoe line. I think the 330 went that way, didn't it.
