I heard yesterday from a friend of mine. He was told by a LCA that the 717's were only on a 5 yr lease. Any truth to that? I try to keep up with this thread but do miss a bit. I don't remember reading anything about this on here.

Ok, must have misunderstood you there.
When you said winter 2013 I thought you meant the end of the year (Dec. 2013), but you must have been referring to the beginning of the year (Jan. 2013).


Just curious, Sail, but what do you personally see as the short term/long term pilot staffing levels as?
My opinion is that management would rather be slightly understaffed with enough contractual flexibility to maintain the integrity of the schedule.
If I had to put a number on it, I would say around 10,000 pilots lets not forgot the possibilities of an another acquisition or merger in which case they would not want to be heavy on pilots in that scenario.

I'm sure they'll stick around longer than that. Perhaps 5 years is what was remaining on AirTran lease agreement prior to us picking them up.

P.S. You probably miss a lot less than you think. ;)

I don't know, if you combine 7ER and 767 system wide off the August 2011 22D3 report and the one they just put with this AE we go from a combined 3,760 7ER/767 pilots to 3,496 7ER pilots according to that report. Seems like it's down. Even with the ebb and flow of awards on the 744, the two reports show -25 on 744 As and -32 on Bs and nearly the same with the 777 system wide.

If you look just at 7ER/767 Captains over the same two reports you're -135. And CVG was already closed then.

I'm not feeling as optimistic because that Aug11 22D3 report had us at 10,724 pilots and the new one is 10,491 pilots. Seems like they're wanting to or going the wrong way...

Well wait a minute, isn't their a rumor American Eagle is getting some of the old AirTran 717s? I saw that on the regional forum. :D

  • Steal wine off airplane - fired
  • Steal from lost & found - fired

  • Lie about almost anything - fired
  • Have a family member trade on inside info - more or less, fired
... and that is how it should be.

Mislead employees into voting for a contract which allows a big RJ order that is desired - pass without mention :)

I never believed Steve Dickson (et.al.) statements when he made them, so it can not be said I relied on them to my detriment. Knowing this, I was still on the fence about C2012. There was a lot in there for the reserves, some marginal scope improvements and money sooner IS A LOT better than money later. I thought the hiring allusions were more than a little over the top then.

In the end, I voted NO.

Continued market deterioration along a pre existing trend line?

It has been no picnic in he other bases which have gotten much more senior over the passing years.

Lets face it, shrinkage just sucks.
