TEN

There are no discussions with the union about aircraft purchases since the contract. There are no ongoing or planned discussions.

I am told the RFP that just went out did not include the 747. The order being discussed is also not the major widebody order that may also come out later this year. The main widebody order is for replacement aircraft with deliveries several years away. Probably at least 2017. This order is a bridge order for somewhere around 10 to 12 aircraft for delivery basically ASAP. There are some other moving parts for this to happen and I suspect they may tie it into the RFP for 30 narrow bodies and order from one manufacturer.

<There is also the A330 and A321 rumor floating around the airbus fleet. That may just be wishful thinking coming from MSP and DTW.>

Or wishful thinking from anyone who has flown an Airbus lol

If GSs start going out, watch for WSs to die off.

I was part of this crowd. Last year I was Sr on reserve, or a Jr line holder...it was nice to only get called out occasionally in the slow months. I hadn't bid reserve since the new bucket system has been in place. While I appreciate being able to get X days over my Kid's spring break, getting used every day on my 12 straight days of availability blows. I thought I'd get at least one night at home. The RAW buckets mean nothing when they can short call everyone on the list. Assignment of short call should be aligned with your RAW bucket IMO, and count me as one who wants to see better reserve rules on our next contract.

You, Sir, are a much more dedicated FO than me! The "two days later" you speak of sounds like a 48 hour layover, so you must be on widebodies... the Captain's Authority must extend to much more on the WB than domestic, as I would never even consider this...

Higher highs and higher lows. They may "eat" compared to some well timed flippers and graph stalking day trader/Snyder junkies or whatever, but it is financially irresponsibile not to remain long hedged in metals to at least some (5-10% degree). You can go in and out a little within that range between gyrations, but there is never, ever, a time for total divesture IMO. Volitility can be mitigated by dollar cost averaging in the mean time. Bonds aren't much of a hedge in a currency crisis brought on by debt and unsustainable interest payments that require currency devaluation in the first place.

There is a reason why 100% of all very rich people and nations hedge in gold, 100% of the time, without exception. There is nothing savvy about the middle/upper middle class investor trying to completely avoid the undisputed wealth preservation hedge of all time trying to surf the peaks and valleys.

$0.02 from Baja.

Really? We've added 777's and cancelled 787's. Adding 747's would help everyone, even if it was only "North" pilots allowed to bit it. Besides could we even get them all on property and bid for by the time the freeze is up in the first place? And what could they hope to "get"? I'm not buying that for one minute.

Finally they stopped ****ing money away on that program that everyone ignored anyway. I talked to some dispatchers. I never met one that believed in Attila. What a waste.
