If pay time is recalculated to MCD, that has nothing to do with FAR/contractual/IROPS stuff for flight times. That all would remain the same as it is now.

The big change would be recalculating the basis for pay times vs. sched block, but I'm sure something could be worked out there. As far as redoing the pay in DBMS, that's not that big of a deal... similar to adding in min day.

What he said.

The same out/in times we have now would go to the FAA for limits. The door closing/opening would go to payroll.

I agree the flight attendants "should" also be paid based on the door, but that is an issue for their union. Besides, don't we already have different pay standards for "holding" pay that they get that the pilots don't? And don't EVEN get me started on the FA crew rest facility versus the pilots. We are not equal groups.

You don't think we could find instructors that can hold the position and be the "right people"

If you calculate pay from door closing to door opening your times are going to be longer then used in the res system. When you build rotations the times will have to be different unless we allow them to use the shorter reservations times. In just the time card section you will now have to track credit hours, block times and door times. You will have to apply the contract to door and credit times and the FAR's to block time. The other issue is that DBMS is going away. The new system is 3 to 4 years out. If are want to negotiate door pay that would be the best time to get the change made. Depending on how a Captain manages his out times it will be a nice raise for some and amount to nothing for others.

You also now have to develope a new pay and scheduling system that tracks two different metics and integrates both into DBMS. that will require lots of programming and certainly some aircraft hardware changes.

Sounds great. While we are reprogramming the me too door pay outside of negotiations for the FAs, I'll take some of the me too vacation pay per day they get. Win. Win.

The board at Boeing is voting in April to start actual sales on the 777X. They also just signed with GE to be the exclusive engine supplier and dropped RR.
The first version out in 2019 will be the stretch which will hold over 400 people and is a direct 747 replacement. A shorter version the length of the current 300 will follow. The timing would about match payback for the new interiors on Delta's 747's.
It was also rumored that Boeing dropped RR engines from the option list because they did not want the engine going into a future super stretch A350 after they funded its development.
