It's not to cover this summer. That ship sailed a while ago. It's to cover the NB peak flying in Mar 2014. March will now be the busiest month for NB domestic flying. At least in 2014.
I know that it is not for covering this summer. It was Gearjerk that mentioned/brought up about the covering of summer flying. |

You gave lot's of details on damage and the diversion, why did you stop regarding ATC's supposed role?
Lets hear the details. Any Mad dog management pilots online today? Confirm or deny this hail incident? |

Sure would not take much to "total" a MD88. Figure parts are cheap, but if both engines come off figure that would render the rest "salvage" in short order. Guess the upside is that it could not have been hurt that bad if they are repairing it.
Most hail will not do much damage, it is heavy enough to get spun out the bypass ducts. What really tore up Southern's DC9 was getting water in the core, which it could not be compressed. There are a ton of used serviceable 737 and Douglas parts. Unless the part numbers are specific to the "88" or NG they can be had very cheaply. |

Of course the company couldn't be "behind", and have made a mistake by "not" hiring pilots and are just now putting forth smaller AE's to staff the smaller equipment as they need for summer flying. (Read: So they don't have to cancel domestic trips for lack of crews.) GJ P.S. Continue the "sky is falling, we'll never hire, never get a raise, never make it to the left seat" banter. I prefer to maintain my excitement for the fall when we "do" hire, and for the future of Delta Air Lines and it's pilots. FWIW I think we'll hire in 2014 but I don't think it'll be gangbusters or "growth" even by today's 1000 pilot deficit over the last few years. |
Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin in 2012. Ann and Nancy Wilson cover "Stairway to Heaven," leading Robert Plant to tears. Awesome!

Its entirely possible that we will continue to shrink *yet another* thousand pilots in a several year period while still hiring a few hundred a year and taking delivery of new planes that replace other planes on a capacity negative basis.

Thanks for that C, it was great, but now I feel really, really old! When my Rock Gods are pushing 70, well...where is the next generation of Super Bands? Where is the next Led Zep? Justin Beiber? Spare me... We all know Jimmy Page could shred on electric but my favorites were his acoustic stuff, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbSWI_37shQ I still find myself singing "Going to California" every time I fly from ATL to LAX. "Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they're all the same..." Here's the lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1T_jCtKnaI |
