If he's smart he's quietly waiting for it to fall more and dollar cost averaging in as it does and pouncing when it hits bottom. The notion that all this fake paper money won't cause inflation is far more dellusional than even the most myopic gold bug. This is also something widely predicted by most rational prescious metals proponents. The QE's haven't begun to hit the every day supply yet, the "wind down" is a very minor joke even if it does happen and we haven't even seen money printing compared to trying to pay off our soon to be 20+ Trillion in debt (and rapidly rising with higher costs in the government health care takeover and mass amnesty coupled with chain immigration, etc) when interest rates are rising, creating the need to print even more money, all of which starts hitting the streets as its printed and dumped on itself to put out its own fire.

Gold isn't the only hedge either by the way. There are other metals of course, as well as other commodities and even stocks more closely tied to real wealth and value rather than hyper optimistic quarterly projections and false optimist patriotic economics that just won't work in the long run.

My guess is that there is an exchange rate issue here. Of course that wouldn't change with an alliance change.

Maybe but I agree with you on that; this won't fix anything. It could be they saw how AF/KLM dominated DL, got a 3 year blank check and then a default rebalance off the low the whole system was headed towards anyway for a year followed by another 3 year blank check and the addition of all cargo ops that don't even count against ESK's and said "da, ve vant to get in on dat!" and are acting as if they have leverage.

Btw, I guess I ticked someone off on here. I was walking to the employee bus in Atlanta and almost got run over by a pilot. Luckily I jumped back.

I was to the drivers right but he was more concerned about a bus coming so he kept looking left the entire time.

And who wears a blue jacket when it's 88 degrees outside with 90% humidity in a hot old car you just got in?

Any other base at any other seniority and you're surfing the whims of the fidgity 4th floor like everyone else.

There are plenty of DL pilots forced into other bases sometimes 3 or 4 times in 2 or 3 years. Other pilots could stay in a base but only if they took a downgrade and a massive pay cut so they commute until one day we stop shrinking to profitability and they can ride the wave back again. Many other pilots commute to stay with a plane during periods of frequent almost ADHD-ish staffing shifts like we've been in so they don't bounce through the school house every AE. Many have spoused committed to certain jobs, run other businesses, have guard duty where they live or special needs children or parents they are providing care for who have a compelling reason to stay where they are. Don't tell me they're all expected to pick up and move every time.

Not to mention that by commuting we drastically subsidize the company's skittish on the fly planing by going through training signifciantly less, not to mention taking far fewer very costly paid moves. Commuting, even factoring in the tiny effect of our commuter policy, is a net gift to the company. Big time.

I agree that everyone has unique circumstances, and it's nice to have the option to commute, as opposed to the way it was in the military. We own a house now near MSP and hope to get based there in the next few AE's. We ended up renting our home in TX.

Isn't the next AE the one that opens the DFW base? :D

My guess is a senior capt heading to Nrt and didn't want to pack and wrinkle his members only jacket. Probably has some white Reeboks and slightly short Lee or wrangler jeans in his suitcase. Just speculating on years of Nrt sports bar observations:p

NERD,

Your observation skills are weak my friend. His Reeboks are in his locker at the inflight kitchen and the Members Only jacket has been parked in the laundry since his last trip:cool:

Years ago I allowed as how I didn't have a locker in NRT......at which point I was asked, "where do you keep your blender"?:D

I've heard that there are 1,400 parking passes at DFW for Delta pilots and flight attendants.

My commute to ATL will be much easier from MSP->ATL vice DFW->ATL based on loads and jumpseats available that I've seen.
