What has changed is that we’ve entered the acceleration phase of the decline. If you have resisted this idea up until now, you still have time to come clean with yourself. The legs on which the post-QE phase of the gold ramp was built have cracked. No hyperinflation, no systemic collapse, no fiat debasement. The biggest misconception of all, that "printing money" causes inflation, has been thoroughly discredited by anyone who followed the debate closely. In fact, collective fears seemed to have tipped in the direction of deflation. |
I notice the "gold guy" on the alpa forum has been very, very quiet. Did he jump off a cliff?

I saw a new 747-800 in Atlanta Tech ops on Wednesday, it was a cargo variant. Also saw two new UPS 767s.

Not real sure what they expect would change if they shackle (no pun intended) up with star. I imagine we connect far more passengers to Aeroflot heading to Moscow then they bring Russians to Delta anyway. Be gone Aeroflot hopefully you can continue to fill those Yak's on inter Russian routes. Never liked those communists anyway! |

As for the individual, he got into a heated touchy feely debate in an LEC meeting and went silent after that. Just to add a little balance to the topic, I don't think the economic house of cards has seen itself through its own life cycle. Currently, we have a respite from the angst of down markets with interest rates being artificially maintained at low levels. The FED is buying huge chunks of its own debt. Germany is the European economy. Gold (commodities) is just a barometer of bad economic sentiment. Most of the articles written on the topic prove (with hindsight) that the authors were just spewing non-knowledge on the topics on which they wrote for immediate consumption. IMO, the best advice for investing is to invest, but don't get greedy. Take your profits and be happy. Cut your losses and be glad you didn't lose more. Go for a run, cookout with your family, tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities. Thank God for your blessings. |

There are plenty of DL pilots forced into other bases sometimes 3 or 4 times in 2 or 3 years. Other pilots could stay in a base but only if they took a downgrade and a massive pay cut so they commute until one day we stop shrinking to profitability and they can ride the wave back again. Many other pilots commute to stay with a plane during periods of frequent almost ADHD-ish staffing shifts like we've been in so they don't bounce through the school house every AE. Many have spoused committed to certain jobs, run other businesses, have guard duty where they live or special needs children or parents they are providing care for who have a compelling reason to stay where they are. Don't tell me they're all expected to pick up and move every time. Not to mention that by commuting we drastically subsidize the company's skittish on the fly planing by going through training signifciantly less, not to mention taking far fewer very costly paid moves. Commuting, even factoring in the tiny effect of our commuter policy, is a net gift to the company. Big time. |
