It didn't come across as aggressive misreading to me. When your religious beliefs are constantly made the butt of jokes in prime time TV land you learn to live with a lot of it. But when you're a member of a forum and someone doesn't take the time to couch their comment in a more respectful manner then you shouldn't be surprised to hear something back. Honestly, I read that and thought it was not intentional, but in a way it was trying to shame me into not standing up for my religious beliefs (i.e. sit there, be quiet, and give silent consent). Sorry, but that's how it felt on the receiving end.

The way it has worked for me is you have to show up first (sign in) and if you are going to be released, it will be at that time. The LCA may let you know ahead of time though. There are valid instances when you wont be released though (I'm assuming you are international).

I will be surprised if the DOJ does not settle. If they do not settle, they'll get beat in Court. Their filing indicates a fundamental failure to understand the airline industry in the US .... from US/AA's responsive pleadings ....
The Complaint’s focus on legacy airlines causes it to ignore the most meaningful competitive development in the airline industry since deregulation: the emergence of low cost carriers. Southwest, which in 1978 was an oddity limited to intrastate flying in Texas, is now the country’s largest domestic airline, carrying more passengers last year than any legacy carrier and more than US Airways and American combined. Other low cost carriers, including JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Virgin America, Sun Country, and Allegiant, are expanding at dramatic rates. These carriers, together with Southwest and regional competitors Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, now transport over 40% of all domestic passengers, and that share continues to grow. The demonstrable success of low cost carriers is a market driven response to consumer demand, but the Complaint inexplicably ignores their profound and permanent effect on industry competition. |

717 Bubba's, get ready to go flying. They must have got the Certification issues squared away. New launch date 26th of the month. Enjoy EWR and CLE.
With regards to the DALPA web forums, they're generally beneficial. The hangar talk section doesn't provide much useful information, just a lot of griping. I was hoping for more professional discussions there. BTW, I'm a Bible thumpin' Jesus freak, if anyone was wondering; not wanting to change the subject, but it is what it is. We all have differing opinions. One of the recent captains I flew with was an atheist, but we avoided religion & politics in the discussions and got along just fine. |

scambo,
Pretty sure you and Carl took this out of context. He called the guy a moron for posting religious conversion attempts on an ALPA forum, NOT for being a Christian. Your "I don't post on the topic" effectively removes you from being a moron in his eyes... Sorry, I'm a scambo/carl fan but you kinda aggressively misread that one. I stood at Times Square last week and watched some guy with pasteboards on either side of him with bible verses written on them, holding up a big sign, verbally abusing with Rabid Christianity of End of World Repent flavor, every single person that walked past, yelling at top of his lungs "stop your Sinning!! Repent!!!". I could be John the Baptist for all he knew, his actions were not appropriate and I wouldn't want to sit near him in a cockpit for 5 hours. I could with some justification apply the derogation "moron" to him, if nothing else for lack of understanding of social tact. I read it that Hockey feels essentially the same--that aggressive proselytizing has no place in a cockpit crew unless invited by an interested party, and posting such on the ALPA forums is misguided at best. There are better ways to spread the word and demonstrate your conviction, and better ways to win converts. My sense of Christianity isn't offended when Hockey points this out in his particular idiom, and I realize he's not saying anything against my beliefs at all. Your intent was nice and all though ;) Awaiting the next good scambo post. |

Hey, I got some potentially good news...looks like some other FO is going to get OE on my trip later this month, so I'm wondering when I will get notified/released from the trip. Anyone have any recent experience with this?
The night prior if you get released at all. I had a trip like that. The night prior the check airman sicked out. I ended up flying the trip as scheduled. |
