Or if he's never upgraded, I guess he could use is one time freeze breaker for first time capt.

(or does the freeze not inhibit a move from B -> A in the same aircraft?)

-88 captains went as I expected. But, I was surprised to see 320 captain go to a guy just shy of 8000.

Is that not good?

Agreed. There was nothing bad about this bid. It was nothing spectacular except for how junior the 320 went (take a look at our trips if you're wondering why...yikes).

I've been asking that question since the 11th.:D

If he's a 777B, he should have enough experience whether previous civilian job or the military. I'm by no means Chuck Yeager, or NewK but I went from the widebody world to my first capt checkout on a plane I never had flown as an FO. For that matter neither of my capt. gigs have been on planes I flew as FO. It's not rocket surgery.

A litle experience before bidding Captain. That's a very smart move IMHO.

I looked at them. They reminded me of my DC-9 days.

Hopefully, that will change when more of the 717's come on line.

Day turns and green slips? No freeze if he's planning on a 1st captain upgrade after completing some line experience.

Or maybe he didn't log off and I was the next guy on the computer.:D. You never know.

Rocket surgery sounds easy compared to all this weird laws you have to learn on that French thing you flew.

I mean, how hard can it be to operate on a rocket? :D

Just one possible explanation if he's never seen the airplane before.

IMHO there is an awful lot of oddball stuff about the MD88 that is really only teachable by experience.

Ask Iran?

Oh, that was Carl's point.

Me too, but, the MD88 is a different animal JMHO. There's just too much oddball stuff on that jet to put a Captain fresh off IOE into one with a new hire flying his 101'st hour at Delta.

As a copilot there's a lot of craziness. As a captain, you just look over at the copilot sweating and huffing and puffing as he's pushing and pulling levers, warming up the steam engine, and feeding the horde of angry monkeys in the avionics bay. You take a sip of your coffee, use both hands to turn the tiller, and ask the copilot if he's busy or something.

Goggles,

I think a first time Captain bid is a freebie on any aircraft. Can anyone confirm- no seat lock for first CAPT bid?

Disregard - I think from Scambos post above the answer is no seat lock for first CAPT bid.
