You take a sip of your coffee, use both hands to turn the tiller, and ask the copilot if he's busy or something.

Since Douglas is kinda big on this aspect ratio ... how does this land in a crosswind?

I think a first time Captain bid is a freebie on any aircraft. Can anyone confirm- no seat lock for first CAPT bid?

Scoop

First Capt bid breaks any current seat lock.

Disregard - I think from Scambos post above the answer is no seat lock for first CAPT bid.

If you have not previously completed training for a mainline Captain position, you are eligible to get an AE to a Captain position even if you are currently under a category freeze. The remainder of your category freeze for your First Officer position will be added to the new 24 month category freeze for your Captain position. As an example, if a 765 B still had 12 months remaining on a category freeze, he could be awarded a first time captain bid and would incur a 36 month freeze as a result. Section 22 G.4.

It kind of breaks the lock. You actually keep the lock and it is added to the lock for the seat you bid. If the Captains seat is a 2 year lock and you had 1 year to go on another lock you now have a 3 year lock.

How much would you like to bid that at the end of the conversion window for this bid you have moved up in relative position not down? That is in spite of the fact that the first 150 pilots being brought on the line will be senior to you. After that there will be a bunch of new hires posted behind you. When your in the bottom category and the company is growing and hiring no one bids on below you normally. Those slots are filled by new hires.

I agree, my category will get a lot more below me soon. This bid, like the last one, did not fill the number of vacancies. It would be nice if something were to open up above in the right seat where QOL'ers would be tempted to go. Until then, they stay put and more come in above me during the AEs.

Which would lead one to possibly consider another explanation that may be part of the equation.
