Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You do know about the ~$150 per person UK departure tax right?

Just did CUN,

New hotel, nice place but not nearly as good a location on the strip as the old place. And the all inclusive deal is $$. But a good beach, and only a shortish cab ride (or even cheaper bus ride if your wife is used to pilots), to the main shopping/dining. Make sure to ask for a top floor, beach side. Only the top floor has balconies, but they said they try to arrange those for crew. Concierge in lobby was very helpful/nice arranging dinner plans.

Taking a spouse shouldn't be a problem, big van, friendly driver, (same guy). I watched another pilot escort his wife with him in thru customs getting in, no hassles. Standby and customs outbound is easy too. Just get a seat request from ticket counter, I believe there is a slight tax, and get thru security. Crew cannot buy duty-free anymore, but spouses can.

The liquid/gel thing is somewhat random.

It'd be a great getaway.

Hey guys,

Getting ready to fly a lot of MEX trips with layovers. Seems we're reclaiming some of those from AS as well. A few questions, what's the deal with security and liquids/gels going into Mexico. It's been awhile.

Also, any problem bringing my wife with me for some CUN layovers?

Thanks in advance!

Buzz,
Another Mexico oddity to remember is flashlight size in your flight kit. I don't remember the exact length allowed, but it was smaller than the standard 2-D cell Maglite...

I had a chart clamp confiscated from me in Winnipeg some years back. It was one of those $0.50 spring clamps from Home Despot that everyone used to hold their books in the DC-9.

I went through security, and they told me they had to take it because it was a "tool". I wasn't about to argue at 0600 in the morning over a 50 cent item, but it goes to show that there was weirdness on both sides of the border.

I'll be shocked if the schedulers will be able to cover all the ATL M88 trips the next 3 days.

This morning Captain's tiny Philip's Head screwdriver was stolen, I mean, confiscated in MEX. As luck would have it, his eyeglasses did fall apart while signing the security sheet. For some reason MEX seems to pick on Captains. My be some sort of a "respect my authority" game of Simon Says with their AVSEC.

What's the status of the PHL-LHR slot AA has to give up?

Cash injection for Alitalia finalized | Finance & Data content from ATWOnline

Will perhaps play into a Trans Atlantic scope violation. I figured AZ's disappearance might result in compliance just in time for management on 31 March 2014. AZ seems to keep saying, "I'm not dead yet."

AZ, if they aren't breaking even in this environment, seems pretty hopeless.

IMHO management took unfair advantage of the 3 year window. They have little right to complain about pilot costs and being "overstaffed" when they failed to staff and fly our rightful share of the EASK's.
