Anyone up and about this morning? I left home at 4:45 AM to start short call at 530. Yikes. Roads in tn and ga are terrible. How's Atlanta? I'm in cartersville on 75 at the Cracker Barrel.

I beg to differ. Back in the day, and I'm hesitant to say just how far back that was... I drove a '67 Beetle as my airport car and it went like stink in the snow. I'm pretty sure that it was rear wheel drive. I have a '62 Porsche Cabriolet now that I think would go about as well but I'm reluctant to try.:D

I loved the Beetle too! My older brother had a 1968 Bug and taught me to drive a stick shift in it when I was 14. But the Bug was rear engine, so the weight was right over the rear wheels, and I agree, it went great in the snow!

I was referring to most vehicles with the big, heavy, V8 in the front, light rear, with rear wheel drive. They just spin and spin.

The German sedans with their open differentials and ABS based traction control systems are just absolutely terrible. Not only do they get stuck, the brakes and rotors are smoking. Those things are probably 20% to 30% of the cars around here and about 90% of the types found in the ditch.

Subarus, F250's and for some reason Honda Oddessy Vans are unstoppable. The beggest suck surprise is Jeep Grand Cherokees. The must have sold a lot of those with 2WD or something. They're awful today.

I do not know about BMW and Mercedes but my Audi is like a mountain goat. I lived in NY for a couple of years and that car saved me numerous times on snow or ice covered roads. There's a big difference between true Quattro and how some of these other cars four wheel drive works.

21 years ago, Atlanta slammed by rare blizzard | www.ajc.com

Remember it well. I was doing a 'nap' in MOB, and was cancelled because ATL was closed. Think we got back to ATL the following day and everything still covered w/ packed snow. Beautiful though with the 1-2" of snow covering the ground and azaleas in bloom in MOB. :)

Safety video is funny but...am I the only one wondering about slowing down the taxi out for a 5:21 run time? And I thought we were trying to speed things up:-)

I'm not arguing with you, but I'll betcha a steak dinner that an accident board will see it differently.

The picture on the left (and I'm the blue dot :D) was at 1pm-ish. The picture on the right was just now. The difference is at 1pm there was some movement and the cars were getting in accidents. By 10pm nobody was moving so no accidents. Problem solved.[/QUOTE]

Ok, I see you (the blue dot) and the two starred favorite locations. I have part of it figured out, 1 star is your home which you happily share with your wife/family and the other is the residence of the mistress. What I can't figure out is whether your going to/from your home or the girlfriends.

Schwanker 01-29-2014 06:33 AM

Just figured it out. On map 2, I see the location Cumming. You must be returning from your girlfriends place.

Even if you know how to drive in it, that crap works against the right way to drive in actual snow/ice. My wife has an Odyssey and it is actually kind of a piece of crap in the snow. You can turn off the ABS which helps but it's still a piece of crap.

The best car I have ever driven in the snow is a 1980 Yugo....that thing was unstoppable. My airport car is a Civic and that thing is close to the Yugo. My Ram 2500 will go anywhere in 4WD with TOYO Open Country M/T's on it.

My wife's Odyssey is our weapon of choice every weekend to the local ski area. With Bridgestone Blizzaks it climbs through packed snow and ice like it's summer. I don't think it's the car, it's the tires. I love my Cummins diesel, but the van gets it done every time. Just sayin...
