You don't get a hotel if you are a RES and you end up getting a domicile layover during a rotation....just REG pilots get those.
Just be nice when you ask Crew Accomodations, see if they've got any empty rooms, and try to sound like you are crying, just a little bit, that always helped me...;) If all else fails, try to score a clean white blanket and head for the black chairs! If it's too loud in A, head for E. But bring earplugs, those INT guys snore really loudly! You may have to go over to the F/A lounge to find the blankets! |
And here's a heads up for anyone flying a west coast allnighter into the ATL, or returning from deep south or DXB. Last week they were on a drug/alcohol testing binge, they were hitting a few peeps off every inbound flight, but our notification didn't show up until after engine shutdown!
I was just about to get off the jet, after all the pax, and I returned to the cockpit for one last look to see what I'd forgotten, when I hear the Ping of the printer. I rip off the 4" slip of paper coming out and there's MY name on it, along with 3 of our F/A's! I'd just completed my PDP! So had all our F/A's, and we were all heading for our commute flights! But we were in F concourse, at 05:30, so we had to go all the way down to the A concourse F/A lounge to be tested. There we found about 20 other crewmembers waiting to be tested. I had to sit and drink water for about an hour until I could provide the required sample size! Luckily my flt. home wasn't until 8. But I complained to them that they had 15 hours to notify us, and we didn't get the message until after engine shutdown, at 05:30!!?? They claimed they had sent the message at 04:00, soo....? Next time, I'm going to hold my water until I'm at my homebound flt.'s gate. Good luck men, we're all counting on you, and hold it until you get through Customs, or risk waiting to gen up another sample. |
Whooo hooo!! Actual new hires on the list!!! 2010 hires are no longer the newbs in town!!

OUCH! Back when I was commuting to reserve, I was able to beg a domicile layover out of them a few times, not for the 5hr. break, but for an overnight when we'd get rerouted and unexpectedly stuck in ATL to continue the next day.

You have to be removed from the trip. The remainder of the trip then has to go through the trip coverage ladder. It's possible you could end up getting the newly built trip back but only if the trip coverage ladder awards the trip to you. |

Crew Accomodations doesn't give out rooms anymore. Also, reserves are released like Sailing said.

I can tell you that this is definitely not always the case. I am flying a trip right this second where the captain (a reserve) was not released. He was giving an in domicile layover. They did give him a hotel though without any problems. Also, I was a reserve last month. Same deal. Flight cancelled, given an in domicile layover. Flew the rest of the rotation the next day. It was all one rotation. I understand they aren't supposed to do this but it happens regularly. Like I said, every time it has happened everyone got a hotel room regardless of reg or res status.
A reserve pilot who is rerouted into a rotation that contains a break-in-duty at his base will be removed from such rotation upon such break-in-duty. That doesn't keep them from giving you a hotel if they want to. But the remainder of the rotation must go through the open time ladder, they can't just keep you on it. Like sailing said. |
Three points:
1. According to vacation dept., since one can keep a vacation when changing category/position/base, vacation move-ups are much more rare... vacation slide appears the way to go. 2. Still prefer PERX (or similar) for their "bump-protection"... especially with the way Delta is able to manage seat inventory... you can miss the flight and apply all your money to any other future PERX vacation... many of the AI places will not allow you to cancel within 45 days! 3. I've had very poor results with the "experts" in DALPA scheds... (especially get the feel that C is still working for the company)... I know my contract well and on numerous occassions, have had to point out the exact paragraphs to the "expert", before he would pursue a resolution on my behalf... YMMV. |
