They will expand DTW 717 later this year. They don't want deliveries to outpace crew training, or crew training to outpace deliveries

They aren't necessarily going to operate the 717 as a DC-9 replacement. (Ie, hub to nearby out stations and back). The trips sounded a lot like the E175 discussion we had a few pages back.

Other bases beyond DTW, MSP, and ATL are possible, depends on what network wants. Sounded like there could be a NYC base and a west coast base.

SLC !!!? But it would go so senior I couldn't touch it for another 15 yrs...

If the MPL pilots are ever to upgrade to FO, where and when will they learn to takeoff and land?

In a simulator of course, just like the Asians are doing today.

B.Bar, thanks for the info on the MPL.

Sounds disgusting, but A4A would LOVE it, no doubt!

"What pilot shortage? We'll just take all those UAV kids from the Military and put them in a cockpit!"

Maddog, I would rather have a 30,000 hr over 65 dude vs a 250 hr MPL. They might drool a little enroute, but I guarantee they would know were all the best happy hours are on the international layovers:)

see, age 65 elimination > MPL... and simpler... and if you make it retroactive it solves a lot of shortage problems at the regionals. problem solved.

did i mention that doing that is also free?

Anybody have any idea why the company refuses to let us use an Ipad Air for Airwatch Secure Content? I just got off the phone with the Airwatch help desk - they tell me that Delta removed my Secure Content from my Ipad Air and will only authorize its' use on Ipad 2 or 3.

All my pubs are gone - unless I want to go buy a new Ipad 2. Is anyone else as upset as I am about this move?

oh as to the pay, the solution there is simple. eliminate the 1500 hour rule. and do both, no age limit and no 1500 rule.

i always thought the 1500 rule was a mistake.

Getting upset will not change anything. People smarter and better connected than us have been fighting that battle for a while. Microsoft's answer makes sense on many levels, and that is what our employer has decided.

It does seem odd that you've got to buy used (off EBay or the like) to have an "approved" device. They are doing this in preparation of putting everyone on the Surface platform. Why Surface is another debate, which ends with basically, because our employer said so.

You can side load your stuff (as Android guys have always done) or wait. I've not tried it on an iPad, but I'd think the instructions would work. I'm not sure where else to find the instructions, but they are hosted on a thread in the Chitchat forum ... Forums > Computers > iPubs.me

The LCA were thinking they would all get their Surface this week. I'd imagine we are just a few months behind them.

Go to the Apps Store on your ipad and download the generic AIRWATCH Secure Content Locker (not the Delta version). It'll ask you for your account info ( 6-digit employee no.) and fleet (MD88 in my case). All your pubs will return as before, and they're still being updated. Mine were updated this morning.

I'll bet we get the new tablet this summer, but this should work during the interim. I'm not spending money on something the company will provide.

BTW, I'm using the original ipad 1 and it works fine.

It was an interesting mistake because those who lobbied for it seemed not to care that the application of their proposed rule would not have prevented either Comair 5191 or Colgan 3407.

Your average armchair shrink can listen to the CVR and come to the conclusion that what was a factor in both accidents was, outsourcing.

The Comair CVR was a discussion of job loss and displacements punctuated by a few checklists. The Colgan CVR was all about maintenance staffing problems, the FO's plans to get a job at Alaska because her pay did not allow her housing situation to keep up with the airline's movement. The Captain was also dreaming the whole flight about his future career ... not the task at hand.
