It does seem odd that you've got to buy used (off EBay or the like) to have an "approved" device. They are doing this in preparation of putting everyone on the Surface platform. Why Surface is another debate, which ends with basically, because our employer said so. You can side load your stuff (as Android guys have always done) or wait. I've not tried it on an iPad, but I'd think the instructions would work. I'm not sure where else to find the instructions, but they are hosted on a thread in the Chitchat forum ... Forums > Computers > iPubs.me The LCA were thinking they would all get their Surface this week. I'd imagine we are just a few months behind them. I was prancing around Costco the other day and found one of those new 20+ inch touch screen computers. Basically, a massive Ipad screen but a normal computer. Now windows 8 makes complete sense because windows 7 wouldn't be a lot of fun on a touch screen. |

Go to the Apps Store on your ipad and download the generic AIRWATCH Secure Content Locker (not the Delta version). It'll ask you for your account info ( 6-digit employee no.) and fleet (MD88 in my case). All your pubs will return as before, and they're still being updated. Mine were updated this morning.
I'll bet we get the new tablet this summer, but this should work during the interim. I'm not spending money on something the company will provide. Thanks! |

I downloaded the app. Secure Content is asking for a URL. Any idea what URL I need to enter before the group ID?
Thanks! |

It was an interesting mistake because those who lobbied for it seemed not to care that the application of their proposed rule would not have prevented either Comair 5191 or Colgan 3407.
Your average armchair shrink can listen to the CVR and come to the conclusion that what was a factor in both accidents was, outsourcing. The Comair CVR was a discussion of job loss and displacements punctuated by a few checklists. The Colgan CVR was all about maintenance staffing problems, the FO's plans to get a job at Alaska because her pay did not allow her housing situation to keep up with the airline's movement. The Captain was also dreaming the whole flight about his future career ... not the task at hand. But I will say the ATP CTP was the right action but I'd drop the aviation university part of it. No offense. I've not read the entire FAA AC on it but will it be required by everyone prior to being hired by a Part 121 airline whether or not they already have a weekend ATP? no matter what the ATP is we know it was a joke. |

While at the moment of the accident the crew had more than 1,500 hours, it is the process of getting to 1,500 hours that is the crucible for a pilot. Fail to undersand that formative experience is to fail to understand why the US system works as well as it does.
