Pilots to planes is not the metric you want. You have to compare block hours. A fleet of 600 aircraft flying 7 hours a day requires a very different number of pilots from the same fleet flying 10 hours a day.

Very well, then lets see a chart comparing pilots to block hours to see the change.

well I guess "we" should fix that in the next contract.

Where did you get the +56 777/747 Capt. number?

No kidding... That jumble of numbers is a pain to decipher, but it wreaks of bad data, or, more typical with sailiing, bad analysis on first glance.

I stated that 56 747/777 bids were posted as replacements for retiring pilots after it was posted that none were replaced. More then 56 retired in the ER program. Please tell where the numbers wreak. They are straight from crew planning and I checked them against the bids I could still locate. Please show me your data that causes these numbers to wreak?

You stated that NONE of the 777 or 747 captains who retired have been replaced. The 56 number comes from crew planning. I never stated we are up 56 positions. 56 bids were posted. 20 in Aug of 12, 8 in Oct of 12 and 11 in Mar of 12 for the 747. On the 777 8 bids were posted in Oct of 12 and 9 more in Mar of 12. Total for both aircraft 56. That's slightly more then none.

Go look on Delta net at the crew planning news letters. They discuss block hours. I think the current one says we are down 2 percent in block hours this January compared to 2013.

Ok, I give up trying to post the numbers in a readable format on here. I thought I had it and it did not post correctly again. I will be happy to send the data to anyone who can post it correctly.

I'll concede, you are correct on the 56 number directly post 2012. I had forgotten about the ER and the initial replacements. However the proof is in the pudding as far as the wording of your post right htere. It's rapidly approaching 2 years since the last vacancy, and they did not replace the all 744/777 guys that took the ER in the first place. We are also a year and a half down range from Age 65 day, and not a single replacement for the the "real" retirements yet either.

While you are technically correct, the overall sentiment is also correct in regard to virtually no replacements since C2012. How much longer will it be with real retirements and no replacements for the 744 and 777?
