Any word on compliance and such on the TATL JV? I just saw that ORD LHR on our metal this fall has been pulled before it started.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that, 80.

I've had the unfortunate honor of carrying some of our countrys' fallen soldiers back home to their families/final resting place.

One thing I've always wondered though, as a civilian what is the appropriate form of respect to display in the situation. I've usually just gone outside as the coffin is being deplaned and stood back quietly to honor a moment of silence until the coffin is carried away. I know Delta has a ceremonious way of displaying respect to our fallen soldiers and I've never been 100% sure on what is appropriate as a non-military, flight crew member.

I don't believe saluting as a civilian is appropriate because it is a military tradition and could be construed as a form of disrespect when done incorrectly. Is that accurate?
I don't mean to come across as insensitive in my question, just curious what some of our current/former military pilots think.

They do that when they buy a gigantic order of replacements. To them, the 777-200LR is old hat, they like the -300.

I'm sure Boeing has done an adequate job of convincing foreign carriers of the insolvency of the 200LRs and how the older models are inferior to the newer models.
I guess they should have ponied up and got the undercoating when they bought them

Yes - standing off to the side, quietly, is a fine way to display your respect. I'd feel awkward saluting while wearing the DL uniform, former military or not.
Saluting incorrectly in the DL uniform would definitely come across as extra-awkward.

Saluting, hands at sides, hand over heart - I submit that these are all appropriate ways to pay respect to the honored dead when in DAL uniform. Your presence and attitude are what matter, and I think all present would appreciate it.

Unless, of course, it's me under that flag. I'm a Sailor, and I come from German stock. I'd rather you toasted me with a good beer.

I think the 777 is profitable operationally but when you add in the cost to purchase and to carry the loan, maybe not so much. This is probably where the used aircraft market makes sense.

I asked this question directly a few months back. The 777 is doing fine. Comments made about total seating capacity and the mix of seats were construed by some as meaning the aircraft was struggling with profits. That was not the case. The issue was how few seats we had configured them with relative to size. All the other fleets had or are in the last stages of being modified. The 777's are going to be modded next to fix the issue.

Edit: emphasis on "a lot."

There is no doubt that is what they want. Getting the gates is another issue. As I mentioned SWA and AK also want any new gates. I doubt AK will get them but we all know that SWA is the airport golden boy when it comes to getting gates. Hopefully RA can pull it off and we get lots.
