Like I state Slow, if the company has in a fact addressed my concerns in negotiations, and there is an understanding, it is in the negotiation notes etc, that is great. I have been asking about this for a few years and have never gotten a response. That type of information is communication. I like it.

There needs to be a ton more of it. The black out on information is awesome if you are a military intelligence officer, but not a union that in it design in bottom up.

We have a seat at the table with the company, but if it means blacking out most information to those you serve, what is the benefit? I know how that is important, but there has got to be some way that you can regularly inform pilots of issues that are arising before they show up in the form of an LOA.

I think a large part of the frustration of the pilot group, imo, is that the current gaps in communication are not being addresed and in light of past events this allows the group to fill in the blanks. When that happens, trust is lost and suscipicion is born.

I remember reading one time that two things determine the direction of any organization, its culture and the decisions made. We've got two distinct cultures merging with rich histories in decision making... I think guys want someone that is worthy of their trust. Someone who says they'll do what they said they would and if they won't, they're willing to tell us before anyone else does and that is plainly not what we have now... but that we want soon.

I do not argue that at all. I think the biggest issue is communication to the bosses of our union. That is you and the other 12,000 pilots that make up DALPA. Bottom-up. Nothing else needs to be said.

I agree that there are certain things that cannot be discussed with the rank and file. Simply put we are a bunch of HS girls when it comes to rumor. That is the fun of being slapped with NDA after NDA. Sometimes it is a lot easier to say nothing than to talk around these things. It is a lot harder to keep your constituents in the loop and not break an NDA. It is what you and every pilot I talk to is demanding. It is no longer a request.

Like I have said many times, it is not necessarily what is said, but HOW it is said. IE, you can tell me I am wrong and an idiot but if you do it nicely, I may agree with you:D

I will state it again. On the CPS issue, the MEC has LEGITIMATE fears and concerns. It was the communication that was the root cause of the issue. I personally think that if our leaders were as candid as they possibly be with us, most people would understand their concerns if not agree with their decision. (it hurts unity but in the end it does not do much. The flow will remain intact, and we will have our furlough protection. The CPS pilots get the voice they may or may not want, but in the end a voice and a vote is what they will get. It will allow them to represent their best interests. If that is to flow to DAL their actions will show that, if not we will not be representing them and us)

Communication is a two way street. People have started using this board as a way to read what is going on. That is good to a point. I implore the pilot that are reading this now, that do not contribute to this discussion, to call or e-mail your reps and let your opinions be heard. Discuss the issues you have with them. They need to hear it, and you need to hear their responses. Some of their decisions will make more sense, and some will still upset you, but at least you went to the source.

No one will ever be able to please even half of this group. We all have different wants and goals. Point is that IMHO every person that has decided to work for DALPA as had the purest of intentions of helping you and I. It is the NDA's and whatnot that make speaking your mind and communicating a laborious process. It can be done though. It takes a lot of work.

To the pilots, at least make the effort to call your reps and let them hear your opinions. The silent majority needs to speak. Your opinion counts and just giving up, not trying and being upset at the results is not the way to change events.

If we want unity and progress, each and everyone of us has to make some sort of effort to get and stay informed.

No, I thought you were going to do one concerning the best attributes of the VOLS these days?

And I'm not talking about the coeds.

Well said ACL and you bring something up I haven’t thought about and it bares being repeated continuously and that is an upwards communication from the bottom. So while we demand communication ACL you make a valid point that we are the ones that need to communicate what we believe is most important.

For me, when it comes to scope, “scope before pay.”

You know ACL, since the MEC and contract were thrown out a few pages ago and everything handed to me and I hereby hand it off to you. And Carl. And Bar. And Tomcat, where is he?

Think about it guys, you’ve got $28M to play with, you’re not beholden to any existing relationship, it’s a clean slate, good luck and just let us know what you are planning on doing.

...
BTW, whats today? The 11th. Whats tomorrow? The 12th. Don’t forget to bid, unless you’re ATL M88 B then today is the 10th, you have two days to bid. ;)

Do you really want to just go tell someone to go get it done and not worry about it? Isn't that what all the issues are about? Either pilots need to get informed and educated on the issues they want their voice to be heard on, or they don't. If they choose not to the will still whine about it, but that is pilots for ya.

As for bidding. Did it a few days ago. I never wait until the last minute. That darn server could go down.

On Tomcat. I assume he is making his way to FL to commute to NYC. Maybe moving to ATL. Those were his plans.
