You really need to go back and look at what happened to the other employee groups at Delta. Entire groups had their jobs eliminated and outsourced never to return. Thousands of other employees had their jobs reclassified to DGS or DSS or whatever the name is now at much lower pay and benefits. Staffing in jobs that remained Delta has been slashed. Delta's non pilot costs are well below their pilot costs relative to the industry. You really don't want to compare your pay and benefits to the non pilot employees if your seeking improvements!

I have to wonder why you felt the need to post this.

Are you proposing that an airline can operate without pilots? Or is it that pilots are as replaceable as cabin cleaners or ground service?

Are you a Chicago guy New? I saw you're a sox fan which I don't agree with, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Where are you based?

I was based in DTW and MSP, but now am based in NYC.

I am from Chicago, but don't live there anymore. Which as you know means nothing for my sports allegiance. Go Bears. Go Bulls. Go Hawks. Go White Sox. And Go - whoever is playing the Cubs! :D

There's 15 seconds I won't get back.

I often see posts from pilots who feel they are the only ones who have suffered and the other employees have not made sacrifices. It's simply not true and shows a lack of respect for non pilot employees and what they have also been through.

For a category that is supposedly going to start big-time shrinkage in the fall, that's a surprise. Sure, we are short ERB's right now, but nobody that gets it on this award will be in place in time to help out before things start drawing down in the fall. I'd like to think it's because the shrinkage is shrinking, so to speak.

But, before we, as a pilot group, agree to anything to help the company I think we have to ask ourselves if it's absolutely necessary.

And whether/how it benefits us.

Sailing,

I'm always willing to learn. Give me some examples. Who had their careers turned into a job? What kind of life were they looking at having in the 80's & 90's and how has that changed now?

Thanks in advance. (No exclamation needed.)

I've enjoyed every Ken Burns production I've seen, although he did kind of lose me with "Jazz". Probably because I'm not much of a Jazz fan. His series on Prohibition was really well done and I learned quite a few things that I never knew about how they managed to convince the whole country to vote away their booze.

I watched some of the World War series last night...seemed like history for people with attention deficit disorder. Pretty darn thin on content, but if you're going to do two world wars in three episodes, you probably don't have much choice. The "acting" was pretty awful.
