I characterize this post as being largely incorrect and certainly in your usual dramatic and emotional manner.

If you're busy with something else, tired on your 5th leg, or some other reason where you become less proactive, does that transform you into not a professional?

No, I think if you are reaching the end of an exhausting day or rotation and don't go that extra mile it means you are human. Going above and beyond what is spelled out in the contract for the benefit of those that pay our salaries makes you a good person. If you don't go that extra mile though, it doesn't make you a bad person, but being nice to our "employers" is part of being professional. Think about that the next time someone goes the extra mile to accommodate your needs.

My sister in law signs off her emails with this phrase:

Be kinder than necessary, everyone is fighting some kind of battle

Is it so hard to just be nice to someone without invoking contractual requirements as a reason for not doing so?

You don't have to be a 4th floor guy to say that. It's a fairly well known fact that the #1 priority/obligation for a publicly held company is to it's shareholders. Now with that being said, there should still be plenty left over for some nice gains in C2015.

What we are here to do is cash in on our expertise and skill set. This is all about dollars and cents. To think otherwise is the pinnacle of folly. If you are trying to make this job feel and look like the Army...we have a problem.

Show me the money (and time off).

You do realize that you are in a service industry don't you? While you are right that the term "operational necessity" can not nor should ever be uttered in this industry, your attitude is exactly why legacy airlines are viewed as crap when compared to M R Rats and even SWA. You can choose to be a thug if you want, and follow the contract to the letter, and that's OK. Believe it or not, I will not fault you for that but don't condemn those that choose to treat our passengers with a little more care than what's required in the PWA.

You'll get your money, and you'll get your time off.

Do you SERIOUSLY think they just flat out ignored it? Or do you not want to accept that maybe you are not of a majority opinion?

T's eloquent response:

If you believe they ignored it for some black helicopter desire to screw everyone including themselves in the process, well that is a really pathetic view of those working on our behalf. And if that's truly the case, I hope you don't participate, we don't need garbage stats junking up the data.

mmmmmkay, so maybe I was a little over the top. But the essence of what he said was not lost. If you feel that way, that's your prerogative. Don't go above and beyond. I don't care. Don't fill out the surveys. I don't care. But then don't complain when the contract doesn't meet your wants. I'm gonna fill it out, and I am gonna put a lot of detail in it as to what I want to see in C15, and from what you have said, it is probably a lot different than what you want. Get involved, or get run over. Your choice.

I do respect parents that volunteer to be soccer "coaches" (again, not really the right term). Not because there's anything validating about soccer, but because volunteering to organize and supervise a bunch of kids in anything is a Herculean effort.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved the US to win that pathetic, uninspiring little participation trophy. Mostly so we could brag about it while not really giving a darn, and that's exactly what that "sport" deserves.

Funny thing is, once the US puts our minds to something, we're pretty much unbeatable. Even though its about as exciting as a game of Jenga, the US is casually getting into it. I bet in a decade or so we're the dominant nation.

But until then, there's two reasons to watch soccer: to roll our eyes at the nations that don't have a real national sport, and to be thankful we have all the great ones.

So are you trying to say that you don't like soccer?

So, are you going to then perhaps take a stab at the original question. I am going to fill out a survey. I will be more than involved. How does one unify or union and get the Hockeypilot44 types involved in pulling together.

Original question was:

How do we get an accurate survey with 100 percent participation and then attain our collective goals?

OK. I don't know that it is possible to get 100% participation in the survey. It is also probably not necessary. Scientific sampling (while voodoo to me) is pretty accurate, so perhaps to get a better real read on the groups real goals, it might be better to conduct a poll rather than a survey that anyone will (or more importantly will not) participate in. So where would that leave us? Scientifically with perhaps a better real representation of the pilots' desires, but emotionally it might be a little hollow because some would feel left out like their voice was not heard. I get that. I am not also advocating a poll vs survey, just spitballing a little concerning accuracy of the group's real desires. Hopey Changey and all that, right?

I firmly believe that the majority of the pilot group is in the 1st statistical standard deviation of the group in that they are neither kool aid drinkers nor Purple dranks. (See what I did there? :D). Most probably want to come to work, do their job and be well paid and respected for the work they do. They probably don't feel the level of disrespect that Purple does. They probably don't feel as financially disrespected as 88driver (With the caveat that they feel they DO want more money in C15.)

Now.. the second part of that question. How do we achieve those goals? There is a process. We have zero choice to do anything other than follow that process, contrary to what gzsg might preach. In 9 months I believe we will exchange openers. Between now and then, a survey will be conducted, and the negotiation committee will digest the data received and craft our opener based on that. I am confident that they will ax for more than we really put in the survey, knowing that there will be compromise in the process. Of course, the Purple Dranks will say that we will immediately capitulate and surrender to management's first offer. From what I heard on the last survey, you would be surprised at how low the actual groups' pay increase desire actually was. Having talked to both the negotiators and MEC reps after the TA, I believe that to be true. (Standing by for incoming "But we need to see the survey posts"). I do not care about seeing the survey. YMMV.

Give the process a chance, be informed and involved. If you want to go the hockeypilot route, (you can lead a horse to water....) then shut up about the result. But at this point in time, I think it waaay too early to start with the campaign to cry poor mouth and all that. Again, YMMV. You are not going to get the first standard deviation whipped into a frenzy and keep them there until we get into the meat of C15 negotiations. If you believe you can, you are dreaming. Our attention span is just not that long. You aren't gonna get the average line pilot pizzed off and keep them there for 2 or 3 years...

How's that for an answer?

Release the survey results, and participation will skyrocket.

Right now, guys don't know if their input is being received, considered, or acted upon. Can you blame them if they feel the surveys are waste of time?

Need proof, please!

Why don't you call Heiko or one of the negotiators and talk to them instead of bloviating on this web board? And if you feel the survey is a waste of time, don't fill one out. I couldn't care less.

I don't think anything could satisfy your blood lust anyway, so even if they released the survey results, I am sure you would say they were cooked.
