+1 FTB.
I know it seems great to a few, but as far as progression goes, particularly premium WB opportunity, very disappointing!! Premium movement (777, 747, 330, 765) is what we sorely need. Seems the result of our poor scope protections are rearing their ugly head!

Well, I thought I'd repost this from a month ago. A chat with one of our senior management leaders:
Cliffs version:
We're slowly de-hubbing NRT in favor of North America to Asia point to point.
NRT/HND still highest pax yields with China being the lowest.
De-hubbing strategy will require much smaller aircraft than the 744, thus not renewing their leases.
No mention of the 777-300 replacing the 744 as that aircraft is also too big for the strategy.
744 is profitable airframe, but is forecast not to be after leases expire due to higher projected maintenance costs.
He "said" that Delta's strategy is to use Delta for the strategy as opposed to JV partners. When I pressed him, he revised that Delta will ensure Delta gets 50% of the growth compared to JV partners. The discussion clearly made him uncomfortable. It did me too, but for different reasons.
Vehemently against the Export Import Bank. Delta will fight for a level international playing field.
Overall, the Pacific has a bright future at Delta due to the forecast continued population and manufacturing growth in Asia.
I'm sure there was more, but I didn't take notes.

With all the doom & gloom of the Whale news today, something that was not mentioned here was the hiring being ramped up to 85/mo immediately. Only makes sense that if we're parking the Whales then SOMETHING is on it's way & soon otherwise why the dramatic uptic in hiring?

So...I'm thinking our "RFP 50 wide bodies" will be the NEO A330's. Richard asked for them, Airbus built them. I don't ever see us getting another 777.
With that in mind, do we want pay banding? Should we negotiate to bring it up to 747 pay? Bring everything from the 767 ER up to 747 pay?
You know what? I'll bet RA would be thrilled with that, given the amount of retirements and training that's going to be required in the next 10 years.
Can we use that as leverage? And Richard's, "Labor problems are off the table" thing, can we leverage that into better pay rates and a better retirement plan?

Good point. Those 5am report, 10pm releases, panic "HOW SOON CAN YOU GET HERE?!?!?!?!?!" calls for any of 3 airports and $20's flying out of your wallet cabbing/vanning it all over the place to put out fires are pretty popular. Plus who wants 19-21+ days off when you can have 12 non commutable days off instead? But the hourly rate is higher, and you get to give half to your favorite charity

Gloopy,
As usual, Delta is slowly liquidating the most expensive carrier and placing growth within our network where it is less expensive to operate. We permit this through multiple failures (aka use of bargaining leverage to trade jobs for pay) of our scope. The result is that retirements will mostly be backfilled by pilots who are not on our seniority list.
Management was remarkably transparent in their last quarterly earnings call. Pilots from Endeavor to Air France are part of a single transportation system. We are a niche. A large niche, but we risk no longer being the pilots of Delta airlines. We are but one group which does some Delta flying. Not really different than Endeavor. God knows I fought this.
As long as we use our scope to divide labor we will not see our pilot group grow, or prosper in the ways that we had envisioned. We must change our mindset and use scope to unify labor.

I wonder how much each 747-400 cabin is to refurb? Between jet-out-of-commission indirect costs and the refurb bill itself.

Long live the Whale!
