I agree with that.

That's not necessarily true sailingfun. It depends on what management/DALPA wants. It is the management/DALPA desire which you will use to find data to support 100%.

The cost for the ER program is almost certain to exceed the training costs. The company will simply say fine we won't do the program. A displacement bid will be posted the next day.

I'm fine with a displacement bid. I have no problem watching 60 year old plus pilots going to training and taking a paycut. I would rather do that than pay them to leave. A lot of junior pilots probably feel the same way as me.

What's the cost of over staffing the 744 for a little while?

I agree 100%. 60+ year olds with full pensions based upon pre-BK pay rates. Pass.

Displacements will come from the bottom of the whale list. Better go look at the seniority list for the bottom 25% on the whale most of these guys aren't to the 60 year mark yet.

Don't worry 95% of those being displaced are under 60.

Read my post more carefully. I'm against it only if its OUT of seniority.

And I'm not buying for one second your argument that displacing 747 captains is low cost. Especially if some of them will only be on the new equipment for a few months and then retire.

Get real. Management doesn't "fully fund" anything out of the goodness of their hearts. They are offering to do it because it saves them money.

Exactly. If they want to "fully fund" the ER program then we need to know the cost difference between that and what the cost would be to displace or just leave the category fat until guys retire on their own. That difference should be divided equally among the rest of us and put into our 401K plan.

I think we should have just left the 117 negotiations and this ER deal alone and told them we'll talk about this stuff in 2015. The company is getting everything that gives us leverage out of the way so that they can run the operation for a few years during record profits without negotiating a new contract.
