sailing, you said "if it was unbooked"...I almost never see that, the hotel seems to always be booked as part of the original bidpack. Is this something you see more in international or ER stuff? When would it be unbooked on a front end DH? I'm considering bidding some, and don't want to get stuck at SEA with no trans downtown and unable to use airport hotel pre-redeye.
Thx

Most hotels at the start of international trips are listed as by request. It's been that way for several years. The one exception seems to be Boston. Below is normal:

Option 2: roll it over; potentially higher fees, still grows tax deferred, expanded investment options, potential issues with tax exempt portion

I'm trying to figure out if the DPSP will accept the rollover and treat the tax exempt portion appropriately. The gal on the phone from Fidelity had no clue. I'm ultimately looking for a way to get the tax exempt portion (~21%) into a Roth account, without paying a ton of taxes on the non-exempt portion--will this method work with the DPSP (synopsis: put it all into a traditional IRA, then roll it into the 401(k) [leaving the tax exempt portion behind], then roll the IRA into a Roth IRA--I'm guessing this article may be dated, since I think the DPSP can handle after-tax rollover money)?

If the tax advantage of the Roth plus the expanded investment options outside the TSP add up to more than the amount of increased fees, it's a no-brainer for Option 2; if I'm going to get taxed on the whole amount, Option 1 is a non-brainer. I suspect the real answer is more complicated than either of those, though....

Opinions? Pitfalls?
I was able to roll my TSP into my Delta retirement account. Mine was all pre-tax income, so I didn't have to deal with that complication. I called a number on the net benefits web site and they talked me through the details. Had to fill out a form and have the wife sign it and get it notarized.

ALWAYS compare the buy confirmed less price with how much they would cost to just buy on delta.com. Often, it's MUCH cheaper to buy on delta.com and avoid the buy confirmed less option. the buy confirmed for less price is based upon the most expensive fare available. Even with the discount, it's often cheaper to just buy the ticket on delta.com. Kind of messed up but thats how it works.

Are you checking at the same time? I have never noticed that. I open the Delta.com site and then get into travel net. Waiting even 20 minutes can result in a big price change if a bucket fills up or tickets on hold are cancelled.

Was contacted by the CPO and asked when did I receive the notice and why did I not bid around it? After being scolded on the topic, I informed him of the post mark and reception period...crawfishing ensued and was told that they would "consider it"...when contacting them the next week in regard to whether or not I was going to be covered, I was told that two of my four day trip was PD'd and that they were not going to pay me. When I asked about being covered if chosen for jury duty, I was told that I WOULD be covered due to it being a situation out of my control. I spoke with DALPA folks on the phone and was told that this was a NEW part of the contract. To my own fault, I discovered an article in either the ROAR or WIDGET that spoke of this change. The point of my diatribe is to let other folks know that you better get the notification in ASAP...the sooner the better. The CPO is NOT looking out for pilots ALL THE TIME...

It's been awhile, but what I've done in the past is scan the Jury Summons and e-mail it to the CPSC and CPO. A follow-up phone call couldn't hurt. Treat it like a hot potato.

Yes. I by 1st class tickets for my parents a couple times a year and it has always been cheaper just to buy on delta.com. Buy confirmed less always demands a few hundred dollars more per ticket. Experiment with it and see for yourself. The norm for me is that It's almost always a better deal on delta.com. My results are skewed due to the fact that I'm buying my parents tickets over holidays and busy travel times. I'm not saying there aren't opportunities to save $$ thru BCFL, but I always seem to strike out on that option.

^^^^This!

I've heard of guys faxing documents in and, due to Murphy's Law, the documents were inadvertently fed in upside down. They got a confirmation that X number of pages were successfully sent. Unfortunately they were all blank pages.

If I'm sending something to the company (Jury Summons, Medical Certificate, Sick Verification, etc) I scan it and email it with a BCC to myself. That gives me a clear record of what I sent, when I sent it and who specifically I sent it to.

I just happened to see that there was a rocket about to go up, so I sat my son down with me to see his first rocket launch.

Is it an app? Or just available through Travelnet?
