Bingo! I'll take my chance to fly a WS because I know I'll never see a green.
Are you back? I think you may be pleasantly surprised about how much your bidding power has increased recently. Scoop :) |

I did a WS last week and I knew GS's would go out. In did this because I dropped a trip and was so far below the GS trigger it would not have paid double. The trip I WS'ed was comutable and Q trip. No reason to GS.

OK, waay short, WS to a decent month: I get it, esp if res manning looks like no one is going green. But WS to 99 block hours a month is nonsense. It kills a green that occasionally does go to someone more junior. It fixes company reserve manning problems. I see it all the time. Manning is terrible. Lottsa trips in open time. In step folks jumping thru hoops drop/swap/whatever to fly to FAR at straight pay rate. That is a prime example of pilots being their own worst enemies. OFG

Greenslips going Senior
I often see Pilots lament the fact that senior pilots have an advantage in getting greenslips. So what? We operate in a seniority based system. What is the answer? Any Pilot that is "senior" and gets a GS has also been "junior" for many years. Should we feel for a "Junior" 777 Captain who could be "Senior" in any other position system wide? What about the 2 year ER FO complaining about being junior? He is in that position by choice and now he complains. The GS system is not perfect but it is very fair. The beauty of a seniority system is that every single Pilot starts out at the bottom and works his way up the food chain. If you are lucky you will only be junior (system wide) once. Many have been junior (system wide) three times: When first hired. Just prior to furlough. After recall from furlough. Like I said - the GS system is not perfect but I have never once seen a suggestion on this forum that I would consider an improvement. Scoop |

Because most of our pilots are used to and conditioned to fly over 80 hours. Its like crack. They have to fly 100 hours to make ends meet.
I miss the good old days where 60-70 hours yielded a SUPER PAYCHECK, Retirement and Medical.. TEN Seriously, let's cap this flying around 70hrs. Raise our rate so we don't need to work 100hrs credit, and perhaps the sick usage would drop too. And get rid of those 5 day domestic trips! Waste of life. 33hr overnights... I rather be home. But heck paid to do nothing, so I'll take it. |

On the 88 in ATL anyone the wants a GS can get one. Sometimes there's so many GSs I have to take my blanket one out to stop the phone from ringing if I'm not available.

All this gs/ws talk is just plain silly.
The answer is to fix/improve the contract... i.e., better pay, better work rules. The problem is and always has been us... not Dalpa. We the members approve the contracts. Don't keep voting yes for contracts that don't accomplish the above. Once the ink is dry, fly the contract however you like... period. There are 12k+ reasons for how one chooses to exercise their contractual rights and it's truly no one's business as to the why. Kids these days! :) |
Greenslip bonanzas are just a product of that categories staffing per month. My category has few to no gs, a year ago you could have a gs anytime you wanted.
atl 320 seems to be the place to go if you want a gs or IA anytime you wish regardless of your % in category. Been like that for years. |
