Once upon a time, no revenue passengers would be upgraded to First Class unless they paid the full FC fare, which left many seats open for non-revs. Then some beancounter had a bright idea....

Need a new credit card with a chip that I can use international. Prefer visa or mc with rewards (cash back, etc). Pay in full every month.

Any recommendations?

Also, can you upgrade the one great team tickets and/or fly confirmed for less tickets? (Paris next week)

Thank you in advance.

I know some people don't like Amex but you might consider the Platinum card especially if you commute or nonrev a lot. Sky Club access as well as other airline clubs. They reimburse for the Global Entry application fee. $200 yearly reimbursement for on board purchases for the airline of your choice. Points can be used for all kinds of travel. Yes there is an annual fee so you'll have to decide for yourself if it is worth it to you.

Yes, you will show as a PSUP on the standby list and upgrade ahead of all non revs.

Barclay World Elite MC - Effectively 2.2% reward when redeemed for statement credits toward anything in the "travel" category. Chip and PIN card, so it works great in Europe and other countries with more advanced CC processing system. Nice sign up bonus also and lower annual fee than Chase.

Chase Sapphire - Chip and Signature at last check, so not quite as good in Europe. Great sign up bonus and points convert easily to other programs. Hyatt is the best conversion value I've found.

Discover - Yes Discover IF your definition of international includes a heavy dose of China.

As heavy nonrev traveler, this card is fantastic. The AMEX Centurion lounge is the standard by which other US lounges should be judged. In years past I've used it to pay the annual nonrev fee and been reimbursed. If I haven't used much of the fee credit by October, I buy lots of pink drinks for BCRF.
