I switched to electronic logbook in the years trying to escape the regionals, Logbook Pro specifically. It made the constant application updates much easier and eliminated math errors. As far as my import routine, I start by exporting the Pilot Activity Statement and opening it in Excel. I then delete the rows that don't include flight segments, including pay summaries, deadheads, etc. I save what is left as a text file (tab delimited), which I can then import into Logbook Pro using the Import Wizard. The first time doing that you need to tell the program which columns of information are what, but you can save those settings so that future imports go quicker. I usually do this monthly after the mid-month paycheck. I imagine it could work similarly with LogTen, etc.

After figuring that process out, I added an extra step where I first copy the PAS info into a spreadsheet I designed to convert ship numbers into N-numbers. That's really getting into the weeds though and I wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't already figured it out for logging time at my last job. A much simpler method would be to log the Delta ship number and save the aircraft list mentioned earlier as a decoder ring.

Nice Red! I've been using LBP for years and never knew I could do that. Thank you!

And one day when I buy my dream plane... a Cessna 172N... I still won't log anything. Just got burned out on it.

I went from tenths, to hours, to one line per trip, then one line per month, and now I'm down to putting one line in each year.....I'm about to go to one every 5 now because I don't think I've done it for a few years.

Can anyone give me a good reason as to why some of the Captains still log EVERY leg in those little pocket books? They must have a U-haul full of those dang little pocket logs.

No comment. Don't want to offend a tree hugger or pet lover or anyone else on our list. To each his own.

Our list has some great guys. They just do weird ****.

My defacto logbook is the Expense report I get every year.........I just keep it with my taxes. Don't think I'll need one anytime before my next life........:)

Newbie question: Where can I find the N-number of the plane(s) I flew? I just finished a 3 day trip on OE and wanted to fill out my logbook. i can see the ship number on my rotation in icrew, but I know they dont always correspond to the n-number. Thanks in advance.

Some might remember when Delta went from record profits to almost out of business in 5 years and want a backup plan. Some may want to fly corporate after retirement. Some are just following FAR's. I just use the log flightline sends with my tax report. I can tell you however there were a lot of guys in 2004 scrambling to rebuild logbooks.

Training Schedule

I have initial training for a new airframe in Apr. My Early re-current is Apr. Do I still have the possibility to go to re-current prior to changing planes? Thanks.

Probably not, but to be on the safe side you had better bid "no training" on the training bid.

Very good advice. Moral of the story: cover yourself every way possible and even if you help sked/training doesn't mean they help you. They are just plugging bodies into the sim periods. OFG

Thanks! Yes, that makes sense.
