forgot to bid 12-04-2009 03:10 AM

7:07AM, I'm still ATL based too.

Super, snowing yet?

My first flurries in IAH was back in 2000 like in September or October after that summer drought and 110+ temps. Fun flying the 120 without AC in that and listening to the RJ guys talking about snow blowing through their vents. But hey, the 1900Ds had nothing and they were out there with us.

Okay, so ALV's are going down and I guess that equates to more flying lines in January.

Anyone have an idea of how many, approximately, this will equate to?
Here is the logic I used, please let me know if my thinking/math is flawed.

(While considering the amount of flying as a constant)
Currently on the NYCM88B, December had 52 REG line holders at an ALV of 82:00. Now for January the ALV is being reduced to 72:30 which I believe will raise the number of REG lines by 7-9 to a total of 60 REG line holders.

52 x 82:00= 4,264:00 REG hours in Decemeber

January Estimate based on December REG hours:
4,264:00 / 72:30 = 58.8 ~ Approximately 59 REG lines

Sound right to you guys? Also why does the company shift the ALV times? I'm sure there is a good reason I'm just not bright enough to connect the dots.

Deadhead:

They take the ALVs up and down. The only thing consistent is that it is inconsistent. Has to do with marketing and shifting time around bases.

It's this bid, I'm telling ya. Wanting folks to feel at home. It never snows in early December. But when it does snow in early December, then we get hammered for two days in March (after we think spring has arrived). Seems to always hit the weekend of the Atlanta NASCAR event.

ACL or anyone else,

Maybe this has been said somewhere. But, with the rumor of the 777's going to DTW, is there a rumor of where they are coming from?

Is the JFK 777 category going to get smaller, or will it be ATL, or both?

My understanding is that the NYC777 category will go away, everyone in it will be mandatorily displaced. At the same time, DTW777 will open up - and serve 3 cities. ong Kong, Shanghai, and seoul.

DTW will have 3 each 777's worth of flying. This will come from the one 777 worth of flying done now out of JFK plus the two 777's we will be receiving in the next few months.

The DTW777 category will be 100-120 pilots per seat in size where JFK is currently 40 pilots per seat in size.

That's my understanding.

I just realized that this climate altering bid might come on a Friday... Fridays are the days where you lay off or deliver bad news. :o

But then again we're a 24/7 365 a day employer and we have a 24/7 365 blog, so is there really a Friday?

For your answer, walk into your local CPO (especially if it's not ATL) at around 4:15 PM on a Friday. You won't be able to distinguish anyone or any movement in the darkness. The only hint of life will come from the rythmic sound of crickets.

The average ALV for each category has to end up in the range of 74 to 79 hours a year to be in compliance with the contract. I think each category has to be with in a certain amount of each other too. Something like 2 hours but I'm not sure exactly. I think this is the reason the company needed the LOA to keep the 88 ALV high a year ago.

I'm in The Woodlands and It just started up here and So far its just light snow. The temperatures are dropping and its only supposed to get worse because its all going to melt on the roads and as the day goes on all that precipitation will freeze on the roads which will make a mess out of this town. Midtown is getting some big flakes and snow showers. They're calling for 3-5 inches of snow today which will make a disaster of IAH today. I'm just glad i'm not trying to commute in or out today!

Its funny because people down here freak out if the word snow is even used and people laugh but we laugh at all the Northies that freak out about the "deadly heatwaves of 95 degree weather"

As far as snow in the RJ, there was nothing better than having 100+ degree weather and a nice cool airplane spitting ice pellets at you ;) I've forgotten what thats like since being on the Diesel -9. The 120 couldnt have been much worse than the DC9 in the summertime

You know the saying frozen beads of sweat? Didn't apply to the 120. Everyone sweated the whole way and the FAs were allowed to wear shorts because it was so bad. We constantly flew with our pant legs pulled up to our knees and we always had the windows open while taxing around... especially since the lav air returned to the cockpit. With one jerk on the tiller the blue juice would come alive and man oh man, you seriously thought that maybe if you jump out the window (on the ramp) you could miss the propellers/tunning forks and run for your freedom.

We said these planes were like a 17.5 year old girl; hot, fast, loud, obnoxious, emotional, high maintenance, talked back and frankly not legal to be around.

SN forecasted for ATL tomorrow.

Does anyone have good intel as to whether there will actually be a DTW 777 category (as opposed to covering the flying with longer trips with DTW layovers)?
