I can only hope Karma finds that man some day and he gets to spend an extra night in a place he doesn't want to be, because somebody didn't want to take a minute out of their day to do the right thing.

I will agree that JFK is pretty bad in terms of agent-to-passenger relations. I believe it has to do with whomever manages them. Here's what I'm on about. I've noticed that one of passengers' greatest anxieties is getting their seat assignment. Most airports collect their seat request and hand them a seat assignment. Heck some airports page customers to come get them if they haven't got them. In JFK, 90% of the agents blow off the customers and tell them to look at the screen and board with zone 2.

Some may argue that the seats have not been assigned yet but I am saying from having stood at the gate with them, that this is par for the course. I believe it's not acceptable and greatly diminishes the customer experience. Customers breathe a sigh of relief when they know they're at the right gate and have their gall dang seat. Okay rant over.

I'm guessing the awkwardness being referred to by several other posters is an age-old topic. The topic of seeing a fellow pilot and saying hi or walking along as if we are any other person in a terminal. Here's my take on the matter. Regional guys have a mild jealousy and that comes across with disdain. Mainline guys are probably cool cats but think the regional guys hate them so they don't even look. Pretty close? Who's to say? Doesn't matter really. I'd like to think that as human beings and for the most part, well-educated, we would help a brother in need no matter who wears a hat or doesn't. I know I would and have in the past.

The awkwardness will never go away and that's acceptable, I say.

Not to advocate leaving jump seaters at the gate, but A0 means a lot to this company, so leaving later is something everyone cares about.

Ya...that manager who will only get a bonus worth 2x their salary rather than 3x.

You either make A0 or you don't. Funny how in a thread talking about riding the FA jump seat to help out a pilot who doesn't even work for Delta, you advocate (despite your disclaimer) leaving Delta JSers at the gate to chase A0 stats. So Delta is a family, unless it means delaying a delayed flight an extra minute? Sounds like management drivel to me.

We all benefit from A0.

Woah there. I didn’t advocate leaving people behind. However, the attitude that “we’re X minutes late, so we shouldn’t care about X+Y minutes late” is a terrible, cancerous attitude to take. Just like we do what we can to get all paying pax on, but draw a line and don’t indefinitely delay for 100% to make it, we should endeavor to get JSers on, but not at any expense and any amount of schedule disruption. It sucks, but showing up 10 minutes after D0 hoping to get on a delayed flight and then complaining about not getting on is absurd.

IF the flight is delayed, then D0 has moved. If you show up 10 minutes after D0, the plane should not be at the gate. If it is the door should already be closed. I don't think anyone expects the GA to open an already closed door even if it is at the jetway. Besides, once they close the door, they are outta there so good luck finding one anyway.

That’s not at all how D0 and the A0 pickup works
