Oh no. that's not true at all. I have seen many passengers on a dead run thru the terminal desperately hoping that their flight will leave right on time, and when they get to the gate with 5 minutes to spare being thrilled at the site of the door being closer and the jetway pulling back. Happens all the time.
I knew complaining at the gate when the agent came back was futile. I quickly stepped over to the red phones and got the last seat on the next flight to ANC. The following flight was oversold. I sat and listened as the rest of the pax got tickets for the next day (losing a day of their vacation), and one poor girl was sent back to MSP then to ANC to still get there the next day. All in the name of D0... |

Agreed. I was keying in more on the "leaving later." I think we can all agree that many times, even leaving 15 late, we will still land on time or early. IMHO, the rush to always get the plane out on time, has created some bad juju. Last week we had pax boarding a dirty jet because the red coat/gate agents were too scared of taking a delay...even after the Captain had told them to hold off boarding (while the cleaners would not answer our calls). Nothing like first class pax walking onto a 330 while the FAs are scrambling to do the cleaners jobs...

This is true, but what I was referring to is the non-rev deadline. A reserved jumpseat doesn't die until 10 minutes prior to any updated time.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. "In the event of a delayed flight, the reservation will be held until 15 minutes prior to the revised departure time." FOM Chapter 26, Section 4. |

Actually:

What responsibility (if any) does the company have to attempt to cover a trip by other means before flying me into an X day?

break break I was on LC today and was passed for a GS. I thought that 23.O.12 would apply, but ALPA tells me that is a carry-over relic of the contract that was not properly updated when FAR 117 was published. According to ALPA the only GS a LC pilot can get under that provision is one that reports between 10 and 12 hours from the assignment. He sounded very confident in his answer but it's most definitely not what the contract states. Can anybody verify that FAR117 has a provision that trumps this part of the contract? |

You need to provide a lot more info. Is this a reroute. Is it a initial trip assignment?
