While the POTUS can deny climate change, it is a serious threat to our military readiness for just the reason you mention. Hardened facilities are still vulnerable. Salt water is a corrosive beyatch.

Then there is climate induced migration. Walls might keep out 1,000 or 10,000, but when the numbers get into the millions a wall does not work.

We spent a lot of money on a sub sea level city and its infrastructure. An airbase seems small in comparison. The surge and salt water are a problem along the coast, maybe we should rethink the barrier island location. Swap with navy for an inland base. I don't know the answer but to keep them in a known threat area during the season just seems stupid.

I'm sure none of it would be easy. But at $135M a pop, when we're already hundreds short of the quantity (I think) we need, I wish they had found a way.

I wasn't there and I don't know the details, but I've been in the military long enough not to trust that all the right decisions were made in advance of this historic storm.

Don't worry, the USAF will pin it all on some captain or major and the general in charge will get a ribbon and promotion.

edit: and btw, the per unit cost of a Raptor is $339M!!! 138M is the incremental per unit cost for any additional jets in 2009.

Are they writing them off or can they repair them?
Lil speed tape and damp-rid ought to do the trick.

I heard the base did not flood. The damage is wind. Looks to me like roofs on hangers damaged badly but aircraft inside probably only have minor damage. One hanger looks destroyed but not sure if anything was in it.

Anyone know why the A schedules are taking so long to come out?

I don’t believe they work on the weekends anymore.

It takes longer to crate a plane than the time you know the storm is coming. Just to get the hardware and shipping equipment can take months.
