Don't know where to post this and to prevent an entire thread on this subject... Going to IQ in a month. After which I'll be commuting to NYC. Spent my regional flying commuting to ORD for a long time, which is cake to use the train system and crash pads. Needless to say, spent 0 time in NYC. Seeing 220 rotations in open time, I see a lot of JFK/EWR, and some LGA. EWR seems like it's popping up more and more. To prep myself, is there a best way to get to EWR from JFK as JFK will have a lot more commuting options in? And LGA... are the train systems/subways easy to use to get from these three to one another? Is there an app or website I can use best to familiarize myself with it before I get out there? I've seen a lot of pads in the 300$ ball park range, but anyways any help is appreciated. Would do anything to commute to ORD again, I had that system down like no other and it was easy to learn. With the triple airports and seeing these awful rotations ending at 0100 or 2300+ I'm just trying to prep myself as best I can for figuring out how to make this work best until my seniority grows.

Thankfully we have the positive space commute and I'm going back to training in 6 months for a LAX commute....which I don't see ER doing a lot of the 3 airport rotations out of LAX either.

Here’s my advice: start a new thread on this. Lots of pilots have managed the NYC challenge, lots of wisdom to be gained, and you’re definitely not the only one who’ll be needing this info over the next few years.

The shortest of all answers: there’s no quick, easy, and/or cheap way to get to EWR from JFK or LGA. Even public transport from JFK/LGA involves a walk, a bus ride, and a subway (cheap, but time consuming, not recommended at night).

My experiences a decade out of date: crash pad in LGA was ok for short call to JFK. The few times I had to report the next day in EWR I’d go the day before (bus, train, another bus) and just get a roach hotel rather than deal with getting up at 3am to meet an early show.

The 3 airport thing for NYC sucks until you can hold a line; when that happens, things get exponentially better as you learn how to drop/swap/trade.

Like the other poster said, you should probably start a new thread on this subject, but to just quickly answer one of your questions- the app you want is called Citymapper (green icon with a white arrow). It has real-time info on everything involving public transportation in the NYC metro area and is very reliable.

Return to flying

I’ve returned to work after an extended absence. I know much has changed, where’s the best place to get the latest on parking in ATL and the positive space commute situation?

Thanks!

Positive space is simple. Travelnet>Company business - book to/from work as needed. Can't help you on the ATL parking.

August 2020 ATL chief pilot newsletter has the parking details(with pictures). Letter still has current info, but it's been said it's changing back to Camp Creek some time in the near future.
1 important positive space note: If it won't allow you to book a flight via company business, but Delta.com is showing seats for sale, call Pilot Assist and they can book you. No backup flights required!

Excellent. Thank you both!

One oddity I’ve noticed, is twice I’ve been unable to book on travelnet and delta.com showed no seats. Called pilot assist and they couldn’t do anything. Then I chatted with pilot assist and they got me a seat both times. 🤷‍♂️

Just to clarify, do you mean the assist app on the EFB is what worked for you? That info might come in handy.

Yes, chat via the app on the ipad.
