I just got "preserved" to a right seat I bid out of 3 years ago. Preservation has a price.

[quote=Sink r8;737347]I seem to be one of only a couple suggesting this isn't necessarily an automatic call, even if I agree with you the PA sounds pretty stupid.

Not True - I don't think a call to P-S was warranted in this case. I know we are all perfect on here and no one ever, ever says anything stupid (and this was stupid) but get over it guys. A simple "Hey CAPT, I was in the back in did not appreciate your comments" would probably do the trick.

As for the guy going into his military background - sounds kind of goofy to me but maybe there were some Sailors or Marines on board. I also find it ironic that guys will complain about fighter pilots on this board and then make a blanket comment stereotyping all fighter pilots negatively in the next sentence.

Scoop - Not a former fighter Pilot.

If he is arriving JFK and its a short stay Five Towns or the Hilton. If he is coming into JFK and out of LGA the Pan American might be best.
If he is coming into JFK and will be staying with a late departure the next day from JFK the Rockville Inn would be best. They allow a 4 pm checkout and nice places to eat near by.

For LGA, priceline can get you $40 at the Hampton inn.

I have ZERO issue with him stating his service and experience to OUR country. My issue lies with the gallows humor about incidents that happen in our industry and at our airline. That is below the belt.

Talk about your squadron and medals et al. You sacrificed and that is his deal, but making a PA stating that you are not going to do something that is rumored and still under investigation is where the line needs to be drawn, IMHO!

Are golden days (reserve) treated like Xdays for greenslip flying, i.e. single pay on top of reserve guarantee, or do you get a premium?

My wife is due in March. Any chance the company will pay out my vacation while I take fmla or personal leave? I know its a stretch...

For all you South guys/gals coming "up north," glad to have you, welcome to Minneesnowta.

The company is very good about working with pilots to get time off for life events. If you are a reserve pilot, ask the chief pilot to move your X-Days. If you are a regular line pilot ask the chief pilot if someone needs a trip for currency (since most categories are overstaffed). If none of those work out, ask him what he can do to help you out. The sooner you ask the easier it is for him to help you.

Common guys, we all say stupid stuff once in a while. Now if this Captain makes that PA on every flight, I as his FO and 1/3 of the flight crew:confused:, would say something to him. I don't believe that a non-revenue pilot should do crap unless it was way crazy. Hell all my pr landing PAs as CA were preceeded by "Brace for Impact." We are not robots programed by Bubba in Hapeville.

Never mind. We are programmed in Hapeville and maintained just up the road by DALPA.

Yes Ferd Thanks!

I also picked the brains of some 755 guys at breakfast in NRT. The real reason behind my Saipan question was from a web search I did about saipan and it sounded like a ****hole. The guys in NRT said it was a top notch beach hotel on Gilligans Islands lagoon. At the end of te day, it made no difference for me. I MDed to 765JFK, I'll be going to IST and NCE but 2 of the pilots on my last NRT trip MDed to 755 DTW bids, one A and one B. (despite the paycut, there is a big savings on commuter costs)

I hope the long asia trips stay intact for the 755, but I dont think they will. It really appeals to me to deadhead in business to a NRT layover and then positive space home in business. In between those deadheads, laying over on tropical island beaches doesnt sound like it sucks either. One commute a month plus a ton of available days for greenslips.

Thanks Again
Scambo
