I am not sure about that other than the "tradition" that DAL likes a one size fits all approach... i.e. fleet commonality as you said. I think that is one of the reasons the -88 checklist is a Tolstoy short story, but I don't know since I have never flown the airplane. Personally I see no real need for an altimeters call on the descent checklist for international flights... read it again... for international flights. Because the response is always the same. But that's just me, and please don't flame me for that.. it's just a minor opinion. Fleet commonality is good.. to a point, but sometimes I think it goes a bit overboard. JMHO.

I agree with the premise that commonality between fleet books is critical. NWA had the same feel throughout all their fleets despite the different manufacturers. The more I think about it, the more it was a poor idea not to adopt that methodology as opposed to the horrible Boeing books that we use.

It's so frustrating learning a new airplane when crap is shotgunned between 4 different books in a manner that is quite illogical except to those that wrote them.

After going through three, err four training events in the last three years, commonality is good. It does make it a little easier......

Hey man: Plane Path Pilot...... :D

It still takes me a long time to find things. These days I generally look in the airway manual first. It is the best bet if it does not have to deal with the procedures on the jet......

Let me just get it out: Plane Path Pilot is bullcrap. Besides, it's not even truly organized like that. Like I said, it only makes sense to those that wrote it.

For dinner, that man chases down grizzly bears and eats them alive while they beg for mercy.

For breakfast, he eats the souls of politicians.

acl65pilot 04-15-2010 11:49 AM

He must be hungry, I do not know many politicians with souls.................

80ktsClamp 04-15-2010 11:51 AM

And you wonder where their souls went...

Don't even ask about lunch. You don't want to know.
