No names here, but...what is up with the 7ER OE planning guy? I know he's crazy busy, but that guy is worthless. I can't even get him to give me an estimate of how long I have to wait for TOE. I don't mind the time off, but it'd be nice to have some idea of how long I have to wait.
Do you think the ER will go junior again due to the schedules going down the crapper?
on the next contract we need to change the pay process. This small check idea on the 1st check is ridiculous. Its like a slap in the face every month. That may have worked 20 years ago but in todays times it would be nicer to have more even out paychecks imho.
No Major airline pilot should ever receive a sub 1000 paycheck. I realize the mid month check makes up for it but this pay method is dumb.

Mine was just north of $800. I feel your pain. Thank god my wife supports my hobby.
I have heard this directly from several N SLI's. They are reluctant to speak up in fear of their positions, and those getting the perks won't jeopardize them. I have brought this up to a few MEC folks and the answer has ranged from "bring me proof and we'll pursue it" (but not enough interest to pursue it on their own) to "well if they couldn't keep instructors it might hurt the company".

do you really think the current pay process is better than have the pay split more evenly? The current pay system is stupid and I've never heard of a company having a pay method like this.
This just enables the company to sit on our money longer while we miss out on 2 weeks of investing return. Think about how much money they make on holding that money longer. 401k compound interest over the course of a career is also effected. More money on the first check means more money being invested sooner by us individually. This isn't all about "budgeting". They're sitting on our money as long as they can.
Yes which made the checks more evened out. Now I get 1314 gross on the first check of the month. So after taxes and deductions the check is barely 800 bucks

One of the things that should be addressed is training in general. I have been in the SIM with just me and the instructor - it's horrible. With the instructor trying to fill two jobs it is the worst of both worlds. I also believe the two captains or two FOs doesn't even work very well. An FO sitting in the Captain seat doesn't make a very good Captain and a Captain (unless he's a LCA) doesn't make a very good FO. I also agree that the DGS "You'll get it on the line" isn't a very good way to train anybody. Everything we do in the SIM should be the same as on the line (except of course the EMERGENCIES we never want to see on the line ).
It might be a seat support instructor (CA or FO), it might be a guy on Reserve called in to "fly" a seat support trip, or it might be student FO and FO or CA and CA if they are going through initial together.
Having said that, we still had our fair share of "you'll get that on IOE" from sim instructors and "You'll get that on the line" from IOE instructors. Some of that was driven by the endless training footprint modifications on each fleet. Either they wanted to shrink the footprint, or cram more stuff into the footprint. Either way you were hurting the quality of training.
I'll take a SLI pilot with line experience over a guy that hasnt flown the line if given a choice. Yes, its a generalization and yes there is always that 2 percent factor, but usually you know who those 2 percent are...
DL is the only company I've seen to do it like this. Is it something I get my blood pressure up for? No.
There are bigger fights to fight, but if the opportunity arises, I would prefer to have 35 hours on check 1 and then the rest on check 2.
