Unfortunately, the pay protection ceases when the junior pilot converts. The only caveat is if the junior pilot goes to a fenced aircraft.

Before I got to Continental Express they had a nasty habit of junior manning pilots which came with no real financial reward. There were no work rules there and junior manning was something you had to run from or be screwed over completely.

One pilot's wife was a scheduler. She called to junior man him. He refused to pick up the phone. So she called him with her cellphone. He knew what was up and refused to answer that too. A little while later the neighbor came by and handed him the phone, it was his wife and she junior manned him to come in to work.
